Popped into Pardoe and Wood for a lunch meeting a few weeks back, and was pleased to find it was quite a nice place for a lunch bite and calm enough for a good conversation and meeting. There are Pardoe and Wood's all over the city, but the one on Gray's Inn is close to school, and the west side of the City, so I imagine it gets frequented by some of the City folks and attorneys from the Bloomsbury area. That being said, it feels like a nice, high end cafe spot, and is a quick place for lunch.
The food is good, though I can't really tell if it's anything particularly fantastic... it's certainly nicer than I usually buy for lunch (which often consists of sandwiches from local shops), and the salad and chili (con carne, lest we be confused) I had were great. I brought the leftovers takeaway and they held up quite well too. The food is flavorful and fresh, and service is quick. There's no table service, but the counter staff are good.
I need to remember more how much I enjoyed my meal her, because it was definitely a nice change of pace from normal lunches. I'd recommend it for sure. Hopefully the other P&Ws are just as good!
Pardoe & Wood is doing some good lunch options, including hot broths with various fillings (e.g. prawn and chilli, with rice noodles), fancy scotch eggs and a whole variety of appetising-looking salads and sandwiches. I had a superfood salad which made me feel so virtuous - I really think I should get a prize every time I eat seeds. It's maybe slightly more expensive than the bigger chains but not markedly and you're getting food that's a little more interesting and better made.
I tried the cake too (lime and coconut) which had quite a nice flavour but was a little bit on the dry side. The next day I went back and saw the rest of it was still there, which explains why. I'm certainly not pro throwing food out but if it's sat out all day it's not going to last well.
The decor is really nice which makes it very pleasant to sit in, they even have comfy armchairs (every chair should be an armchair). There's a few seats outside too.
I just have to update this review to rave about the veggie options here. Both the Beetroot and Feta Super Salad and the Goat's Cheese and Beetroot Wrap are delish!
