Fabulous food! fabulous view!

The perfect date place in all of London! You absolutely can't go wrong with this choice. The food was amazing and so were the attentive servers.

I went to excellent restaurants all over London and Oxo was hands down the best! A must for everyone especially visiting from the US!

This is a really nice place.  We went on a sunny day in London (yes, those do exist once in a while) although it was a bit chilly up on the patio.  They did have blankets for the ladies though--nice touch.  The restaurant inside is nice and airy, and on a Saturday afternoon had live music.
The food was very good--really nice menu, although if you are looking for more of a light lunch you are out of luck as it is more of a dinner menu at lunch and a bit pricey (mains at around 20£ and above)
The service was slightly lacking, to the point where I almost got my own water after asking three times.  That was disappointing.....
But if you are looking to turn it up a notch for a beyond an ordinary lunch, the view, ambiance and food make for a good experience.

With my flatmate's parents in town, we headed down to Oxo Tower Restaurant for a nice dinner to celebrate. It was a sunny (and actually rather hot) day in London so we were able to sit outside where the views are stellar. The food is delicious if a bit ... small. The portions are incredibly tiny and the food is quite expensive, but if you're looking for a nice night out and aren't worried about spending, it's a great place to check out! Definitely sit outside if the weather's nice!

Ooohh, Oxo Tower... wine me, dine me, make me Yelp!

Despite all of the hype, the views from this 8th floor "tower" are in fact stunning, and the prices aren't nearly obscene as anticipated. Oh, it's pricey yes... But I was expecting the final bill to be far more breathtaking than the view, and I'm pleasantly surprised to report that it was quite the opposite. (It really is a damn fine view.)

Granted, a winter's evening isn't exactly the best time to en-jo-jo-jo-jo-joy the p-p-p-p-p-atio, but at least I didn't have to beat out the crowds that prevented me from gawking at the Thames and beyond on a lazy summer's night.

Put your sparkle pants on, ignore the abundance of extra zeros you're bound to see next to each dish, and take it all in. What's life without a few splurges now and again, right?

Fantastic view! Went there during the winter time and still, some people were brave enough to take their drink outside on the patio for 10 minutes to take in the view. It's one of those moments where you tell yourself "I am in London."

Food was really good and of course expensive. Cocktails were tasty combinations.  But if you want to have a proper date night/girls night out/birthday outing/marriage proposal place - this is it. I can't remember if in the end with two bottles of wine, a starter, main, and dessert we paid either 50 or 70 each.

Ah the tinkling piano, the extensive back bar, the food porn menu (that's just the bar food!), I felt like I was in an Audrey Hepbourn movie... the large wide screen tv on the wall jolted me back into the 21st century.

Great views, great staff, veeeery expensive but then it was always bound to be.
It pays to be smart in a place like this, or, you could turn up in your casual outfit and act like YOU don't have to dress up for the Oxo tower, both will work just fine.

I was taken to dinner here by a date on my 24th birthday (2007). It has to be the nicest restaurant all round that I have ever been to! We stood on the balcony outside and looked out at the view which is really nice, and when our table was ready we were promptly seated. The meal was deeeeelicious and the service was excellent! My date even surprised me when I went to the bathroom. When I returned the waiter appeared out of nowhere with a small cake and a candle on it for me! I didn't manage to get a peek of the bill but I'm sure it was possibly almost £200 (we didn't have alcohol).

This is an exquisite restaurant and would make the perfect backdrop for an anniversary dinner or proposal.

OXO bar has some of the best views of the Thames around - and it's very central, and IT'S ON THE SOUTH BANK! For us South Londoners, it's a fantastic venue for some up-market cocktails or a gin and tonic on a summer evening.

Thankfully I came when I worked for a consultancy, and don't recall ever paying for a drink - so can't complain personally about the prices. But as you'd expect, the venue and the service comes at a price, and unless price isn't an issue, you probably won't be coming here too often. For the special occasions, though - or when someone else is paying - it's awesome :-)

Some work colleagues and I dined at the restaurant awhile ago after a fairly intense work day, punctuated by the fact that some of us had arrived the same day from the States and really just wanted a good night's rest.

But who can resist this view? And in an classy (albeit expensive) island away from the hordes. It was a fun and relaxing evening and a great opportunity to catch up. The food was very good and the service was efficient, friendly, and unobtrusive. A few of my friends really enjoyed the wine list too.

Then afterwards, we all took a leisurely and happy stroll back to the hotel. Or at least until that one street person took a swing at me with his bottle while passing me by.....Ah London!

You've probably already heard that OXO Brasserie is pricey, the food is so-so, the building is fun and the view is great.

Is it worth paying too much for your dinner just for the view? Normally I'd say no but there is one exception...

::::: 5th of November :::::

Book your table now. I was lucky enough to have my sister figure this one out one summer and 3 months later we were sitting eating rabbit and drinking wine at 8 pm with a grandstand view of London's best fireworks, north and south.

My genius sister.

After seeing a small logo on the right hand side of our Yelp pages, saying "Yelp now in the UK", I was truly thrilled! It has been bloody ages since I lived and worked in the UK but it left an indelible and remarkable impression upon my soul.

It was New Year's Day 2002 and my fellow work mates and I, from the Old Trout Inn in Thame, Oxfordshire, decided to continue our debaucherous NYE with a trip to fancy London town for a fabulous lunch and drinks at the Oxo Tower. Obviously, I will never forget the incredible view from the atop the Tower, a sprawling metropolis divided by the river Thames. Our lunch was spliced with numerous bottles of fantastic wine and soon we realized it was no longer lunch time, but time to move to the bar.

I had heard such fabulous fables of the Oxo Bar that I simply stared in awe at the gorgeous staff and massive, endless drink menu. In order to decide upon drinks, we simply closed our eyes, flipped a page and pointed. Thusly, as the night wore on, so did our ridiculous behavior. I remember ending the night singing Frank Sinatra and swearing to myself that I would always remember this incredible New Year's Day.

This really is a stunning place to eat with views as good as the millenium wheel.

Lunch or dinner here is something you won't forget for a while especially the attention to detail the staff have when it comes to looking after you and making each person feel special.

Some places like this have the 'harvey nicholls' approach.  You know what I mean?  When the assistants in the shop look at you like you should'nt be shopping there?  Unless you're in a 3 piece bespoke 007 suit and all the trimmings - Not here.  Although, its the kind of place worth dressing up for - but just expect everyone to enjoy their meal equally, without snobbery found in other amazing restaurants like this.

Love it.

My boyfriend is a sucker for any restaurant with a good view.  The view here is unbeatable.  I think this must be one of his favorite restaurants in London.  Thankfully, the food here is much better than it needs to be.  Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the service.  It is slooooooow.  But, hey, you're here for the view anyway so might as well make the most of it.  And, oh yes, that fabulous view doesn't come cheap.

If OXO stood for hug, kiss, hug, or open xylophone orchestra, i might have given this place another star, but as far as I can figure out, the name does not pertain to either of these options.  The OXO towers is a mish mash of shops and gallerys and cafes and eateries.

The cafe on the river side of this joint has a bit more character  than the Starbucks down the walk as well as a nice view out on the people who meander buy.  The shops sell stuff that is near to being classified as fancy.  Or things that are art.  Nothing extraordinary, like earring crafted in kryptonite, but  aesthetic nonetheless.

There's also a Yakatori restaurant and a bar and the like, but I can't really tell you much about either of those because it's top secret information.

This is probably one of the top places to come on a date as it's a really elegant bar and whilst sipping a martini you can soak up the beautiful view of the city and the Thames.
They do great cocktails, the bar is slick, what more can you want.

I came here on a date once and loved it. We didn't stay for very long unfortunately as neither of us were very flush with cash at the time but a revisit is in order i think.

Oh and the staff are very efficient, attentive and courteous.

I once came here for a first date with someone, and even though he managed to drop his whole drink on me by mistake, I still thought the place was lovely.  The views from the tower are stunning, and the cocktails are delicious.

Fortunately the bar and restaurant area are separate, since the prices are rather high.  The restaurant obviously has the best views, but you can still catch a fully lit St. Paul's from a distance.  The bartenders were also very friendly and chatted with us as we drank our drinks.  There is a great variety of drinks on offer so you should ask the bartenders for recommendations, but this is a great place to go for a pleasant, yet slightly pricey cocktail.

Atmosphere, presentation, service, view and of course the food. All excellent. Non pretentious staff...excluding the odd sommeiller or two, amazing food with well balanced dishes and great seasoning. Try the venison with a side of creamed mash! Only criticism...temperature, it was noticeably chilly with a jumper on, this meant that the food chilled very quickly. Everything else more than made up for this gem of the capital!

Oxo tower is situated on the Southbank right next to the fun little Gabriel's Warf.
Winning building of the year in 2007 for urban regeneration. This building helped rejuvenate the Southbank along with Tate Modern and the now relocated Saatchi Gallery.
The views for the 8th Floor are spectacular. The lights of London in the evening are beautiful. The little boats on the Thames creeping up and down with onboard parties, dinner groups or tourists sightseeing.

As you enter the 8th floor you first walk into the bar and brassiere area which is linked by an exquisite terrace to the restaurant.

The seating in the Bar and brassiere is very intriguing. Large awkward shaped moulded plastic chairs. Extremely comfortable but exaggerated forms.

The restaurant furniture is much simpler with sophisticated yet minimalistic tables and chairs.

The huge glass facade is truly the finishing touch to this experience.

It was by complete surprise that I ended up at The Oxo Tower Bar on a summers night, but then, unplanned nights are often how the best evenings start, aren't they? I had met up with two guy friends of mine from Manchester. They wanted to see London through a tourists eye. They had looked up at the distinctive red cross marking the Oxo Tower on the South Bank and decided that was the place to go.

I was hesitant; I didn't realised that the bar was completely separate from the restaurant, so that you could drink without having to eat (and the restaurant is very expensive). But the bar is pretty much an entity of its own. The place was buzzing, packed with a complete mix of individuals. A live jazz band was playing (they play on most nights). The cocktail menu was sublime. It ran through classics, giving a few unexpected twists to some. Many were champagne cocktails, others were house specialities.

While they were not cheap (between £9.00 -£12.50), I felt that the cost was justified when we took our drinks outside onto the large terrace bar. I would have paid any money for this view. It simply stops you in your tracks. Sweeping across London, with St Paul's staring back at you, this is one of the best places to stand with a drink in your hand. I could have stayed here all night. My drinks were going down a treat. Let me recommend to you the Lychee and Rose Petal Martini, and the Apricot Champagne Cobbler.  But alas, all perfect evenings must eventually end, but that doesn't mean they can't be recreated again.

A prominent architectural feature on the Southbanks, the Oxo is home to shops, businesses, offices and residential apartments. But what sets it apart, it faces the river Thames, is a good example to buildings reused. In this case originally built to house a power station; now its uses are multifunctional.

One of the most famous restaurants is on the top floor 'The Oxo Tower Restaurant' run by Harvey Nichols. This restaurant has breathtaking views of the river-front and has an esteemed guest list. Bookings essential!!

This place is well swish. Whatever you do don't wear bright red plimsolls as I made the mistake of doing and getting filthy looks from the staff all evening. After getting over the plimsoll embarrassment luckily I was able to enjoy a really fantastic meal with a stellar wine. You will need to save up or be rich in order to come here as the meal is going to be well over £100 and when you add in wine and anything else the bill will be fairly steep.

I came here with my old work and we all had a pleasant evening. A great time for this restaurant (apart from if you're just rich) is for your graduation when mummy and daddy are obliged to get you something nice.

Wonderful.

Super friendly, really nice staff - that was actually my main impression.  But a quality place to come along and while away the hours with an alcoholic beverage.

Because of the views.  There's probably no better bar in London to get the full panoramic feel of the city, just take a spot by the window (which I was lucky enough to be able to do) and gaze.  So the setting was just epic.

Yeah was a bit pricey, but then I suppose it's going to be.  But I was mainly taken with how nice the peeps that work there are.  Good little chat was had by all!

For every rule there is an exception. The Oxo Tower Restaurant is a welcome exception to my rule about restaurants with a view. Normally, I assume that the quality of the food served is inversely proportional to the height of the restaurant and the beauty of the view. This curmudgeonly observation is brought to you by one too many mediocre meals in rotating restaurants atop Hyatt Regency hotels and other situations in which kitchen inspiration has been sacrificed for dining room elevation. At the same time, I can recall many truly inspired meals I've eaten in basements, strip malls, ugly storefronts, and other low-altitude environments in which the view is something to be avoided rather than celebrated.

What circumstances conspire to make Oxo better than the typical "Room with a View" approach to dining? First, the decor, which is casual, bright, and cheery, complements the open view of the Thames and much of London. Normally the approach at this type of restaurant is to have subdued lighting with the intent of focusing all attention outward on the panoramic vista. This strategy often leaves the dining room sullen and eerily quiet. Fortunately, OXO is lively with chatter from the crowd mixing with live jazz performed near the bar.

Second, the food at OXO shows, for the most part, greater vivacity than the standard rooftop menu. Wanting to eat lightly after a week full of indulgent dining in London, I focused on meatless items on the menu. My starter, a sort of mezes platter of goat cheese, hummus, beets, and tabouleh, was surprisingly hearty and flavorful. The combination avoided the excessive saltiness often associated with mezes. My entree was a vegetable roulade served with two small sweet potato fritters and tzatiki. The former looked at first glance like a wrap made with a tortilla. The reality was much more clever. Instead, gracefully carved carrot wrapped around an interior  full of a vegetable stew. The sweet potato fritters were actually more like little mini-samosas and paired quite well with the yogurt and cucumber in the tzatsiki. My companions ordering fish and meat entrees were equally pleased with their meals.

Dessert was easily the best finale to a meal I've had in a long time. I ordered a coconut panna cotta that was surrounded by a sort of moat of thinly diced mango. It was one of the airier panna cottas I've had and the gossamer texture allowed the assertive tropical fruit flavors to stand out. My only complaint about the food was the selection of a-la-carte sides. They were all well-prepared, but they were also the same snoozy items that seem to prevail at virtually every London restaurant I've visited: steamed broccoli, fries/chips, and the ubiquitous salad of arugula/rocket and parmesan. I love all these dishes, but they're simple items that have been done thousands of times. My hope would be for more innovative sides that equal the mains in orginality and intensity of flavor.

For our large party concluding a productive week of meetings, the service was polite, but missed a few beats. Our group was split between two tables, an understandable action considering that half the restaurant was closed for renovations at the time. Nevertheless, the pacing of service between our two table somehow got out of synchronization, resulting in one table on the verge of receiving its mains before the other table had seen its starters. Although I think this error caused some distress to our London hosts who had arranged the dinner, it was corrected graciously and quickly when brought to the attention of staff.

While our experience in OXO Tower was by no means perfect, it did provide an impressive atmosphere for wrapping up our business dealings of the past few days. That was a given in light of the location. The pleasant surprise was the quality and originality of the food. I'd gladly eat more of what comes out of OXO's kitchen in any environment or at any height.

The OXO tower is an excellent place to visit. VISIT. To stay and eat here is to be a rich, carefree person. And as most of us aren't anywhere near that desription, we have to make do with just visiting.

That said, it is still possible to enjoy the place. A beautiful peice of architecture, the tower allows guests to come and take a view from the balcony, which is very pretty and which faces out on to the Thames, with very dramatic views. If you're feeling flush, you can buy a bottle of wine to top off the experience.

by far the best restaurant i've eaten at in london.. i uploaded two pictures.. i ate here aug 2009 and i think the head chef at the time (and still is) was jeremy bloor.. i'm always googling him to see if he ever opens a restaurant in nyc because that's where i am now.

customer service was top notch. me and a friend went on a chilly night and everyone was eating inside. but we wanted to eat outside and they gladly allowed us and even gave us blankets. check the pictures, the food is just too good. i don't know how long the chef will be there but his food cant be beaten. hurry before he pursues a new venture elsewhere.

On the edge of London's great river, is a bizarrely shaped building, called the Oxo tower, and on top of it is the Oxo Tower Bar. I first went there because I heard that it was free to get the lift up the tower and catch a great view of London, and it is an amazing view. They said it was free, and that was really clever, and the view is magnetising and you almost feel that you have to toast to the moment, hence, a trip to the bar to purchase a drink.

There is a bar and restaurant, and since my first trip, I have been a few more times, it is somewhere to take family visiting from abroad or take a lady friend. I havent had anything in the restaurant, but as for the Bar, it is expensive, but everything comes with good service and great views. My last trip there, I was on the Cocktails, me and a friend stayed and around four each, that cost me £50. Ok, its not cheap, but the view!!! I love it. If you arent afriad of heights, take a quick look from the outside balcony!!
