I love going to Oma's Apotheke when I'm hungry - the menu selection is wide and the prices are affordable, I've never left Oma's Apotheke hungry and have always enjoyed everything they've put in front of me.
Oma's Apotheke is on the corner of Schanzenstrasse, opposite the S-bahn station, which makes it very central and a great place to meet friends for a bite to eat. The large tables allow larger groups to sit together, when we're there we normally fill up a table or two (and all manage to find something on the menu, including the veggies!).

I've been coming to Oma's ever since I came to Hamburg, and it's one of my favourites. They do a mean steak, huge burgers and good frühstuck (continental breakfast).
They also show the football sometimes (see if you can spot the screen, it's very well hidden). The beer is a bit pricey, but it's more of a restaurant than a bar..

Usually portions in Germany are pretty huge and I am not able to finish them. That was not a case in this place, but not because the portion was too small. It was just so tasty:) Also, I definitely recommend Scweinemedallions mit käse:D Also I'm a big soup fan, so that will be my next thing there to try out, as for I saw they serve it inside big piece of bread.Should be tasty. They also have vegetarian menu, pizzas, salads and what else not, so there definitely should be something for everybody.Prices are really ok, too.
Other than that this place is great because of its location and its really has that vibe, that you want to spend there all those rainy Hamburg evenings.

The Omas Breakfast comes with a lot of cheese (some a little weird and others like the brie a very welcome sight on my plate.)
Bread rolls, Meat, Croissants, fruit, juice, a bevvy of spreads and a flute of champers also accompany the breakfast.
Plenty of food but a little heavy on the stomach and no good if your not a fan of cheese and bread for breakfast.
Was a little disappointed with my boiled egg being boiled much too hard... but other then that the service was quick and the price good.

I always thought that burgers are something you get at McDonald's or Hesburger, but that changed when I came to Hamburg. Oma's Apotheke was the place i've tried my first real burger and I still can't find a place to top that.
The staff is very welcome, interior is good, the food is great! What else do you need? :)

I went to Oma's Apotheke (which is not a chemist!) for the first time last night. I was really pleasantly surprised. I've always previously crossed the road to Franck und Frei, but I have to say, the steak in here is even better. Lashings of absolutely delicious creamy pepper sauce, with great thin cut fried potatoes instead of fries (you can have either), and quick service considering how busy it was. My friend had the salad which was also huge, and neither of us finished despite going in hungry. Definitely worth a look.

The best breakfast in the city. Really advisable. Studentenfrühstück only 5,50EUR. And coffee as much as you want. The atmosphere is really comfi and when the sun is shining you can sit outside and feel the Schanzenvibe. In the peak time it's quite crowded. So get up early enough or reserve a table.

I'd say the food in here isn't as good as in Frank und Frei across the street, but it's got plenty of charm to make up for it. And you just gotta love their breakfast, which comes with a glass of sparkling wine. There was a nice buzz about the place and the staff make you feel welcome. Minus for bad coffee though.

I just loved the atmosphere here. It was very full but the service was great and the hearty food hit the spot. I wanted to linger and take in the interesting surroundings of the old apothecary shop. I'll put this at the top of my visit list next time I'm in Hamburg. Give it a try. It bistro style, not flashy, but honest and enjoyable.
