The Odeon Cinema in Colchester is the only cinema in the area, and it better than the other chains of cinema, in my opinion. The cinema itself is situated just off the high street (so there's no official parking, but many carparks nearby) and looks small but it is decievingly large on the inside. It was a range of screens so there are many different films shown every day, and the usual range of drinks and refreshments available including a pic n mix, ben and jerry's counter and a popcorn and hotdogs counter. (or a shop next door, if youwant to do it on the cheap.) If you fancy something a bit different, there is a costa coffee attached to the cinema with a range of drinks and sandwiches to take into your film with you. The screen rooms themselves are average size, set out on two floors with about four on each. (There is disabled access available, but you'll have to speak to a member of staff). The staff have been fairly friendly in my experience, and are often more than happy to recommend or give their opinion on a film if you are not sure. The range of films are fantastic, showing all of the new blockbusters as well as specialist ones such as Director's chair screenings which show arthouse and indie movies, Childrens screenings which are usually disney films specifically for family outings, and Golden Oldies which show films for the older generations and have complimentary tea and biscuits.
Orange wednesdays are accepted here, and they also do premier seating.
Decent movie theatre, but the seats are terrible. Half are either bent out of shape and none of them are comfortable at all. Literally leave the place feeling half beat up from sitting in them for two hours straight.
Good sound system and screens, mediocre service. This place always seems to have a lot of issues - hope they can update it to match the rest of Wimbledon.
This Odeon cinema is on the high street, it's great to be able to pass on a whim while shopping and jump into a movie.
Great seats and view on offer as well as the usual student discounts.
Orange Wednesday is taken here so if you have a mobile on this network you can get two for the price of one entry when you text the word film to 241.
They also offer different ranges of seats. For slightly more you can have a designated seat with the best view and head rest.
Full of staff that don;t give a toss. There was a power cut whilst we were waiting in the foyer and rather than being asked to leave for our safety we were shoo'd away like ducks. The place always feels grubby and the seats are very uncomfortable. Go to Cineworld instead in Braintree
As has already been mentioned by other reviewers, Odeon Colchester is the only cinema in or around the town. However, this lack of competition has not caused standards to decline. Staff, although mostly bored students, are helpful and willing to go out of their way to solve an issue. The facilities themselves are very clean, with two members of staff waiting after every screening to clean up all the detritus of snacks and drinks. As with all cinemas, however, food and drink at the Odeon are extortionately priced for example, the cheapest popcorn (small) costs £3.60. In all, a good cinema four stars.
The cinema is excellent value for money. They have a wide range of films on offer with special events such as kids club, oap rates etc. The cinema is on one of the main roads in the town so close to car parks etc.
I found this cinema quite noisy and confusing! There's a cafe and a DVD shop in the entrance hall as well as all the usual pic 'n' mix and snack stands. Once you manage to get past all that then you have to go upstairs to find your screen and I just didn't think it was that well sign-posted (I struggled to find the exit too!), maybe it was just me! The toilets weren't very clean and the whole place just seemed a bit overcrowded.
this is quite a nice cinema. it has everything you would expect, the astonishingly high priced popcorn. the spotty kid selling tickets. the sticky carpets. but in my opinion once you have a pretty standard cinema like this , you are more interested in the quality of the film , so i would guide you to rottentomatoes.com to check the film quality. i mean you dont go to watch pirates of the carribean and come out not feeling cheated because the quality of the cinema wallpaper was superior. having said that, it is good to have a comfy chair and this place has comfy chairs.
Visit here occasionally, good clean modern facilities, can be an expensive night out but for a treat it's great!
lol great review, it's a nice cinema have been to some rite states, very expensive though.
