This is an excellent hotel for a stay in London. It's ideally situated - very close to the Paddington H&C/Circle Line tube station (short walk mainly along the canal) and Paddington mainline station (Heathrow Express, west country trains) with the other tube station just a few minutes further on.
The hotel is sandwiched in between the railway lines and the M40 but, as noted by Ben M., you can't hear a thing.
The design is European modern (as noted elsewhere) - the rooms are spacious by London standards and very efficiently laid out. Even the pull-out sofa was comfortable (according to our 12-yr-old son).
The breakfast was really excellent - something for everyone's taste - and the English breakfast was really good.
My rating of Moderate on price is based on you getting some sort of discount - as with all London hotels you need to try to get a good deal on the room rate, especially if you're coming from the USA (the exchange rate is not kind to us at the moment). But rest assured that you will have a comfortable, pleasant, clean stay.
The free wi-fi is basic - you can opt for a higher-bandwidth connection by paying - but for our purposes the wifi was just fine.
The breakfast is really good!! It gets -2 stars because the tv was so hard to figure out , the remote would work sometimes and other times not. And it would randomly turn off and not turn back on :/
The double glazing on this hotel is incredible! It's close to a busy flyover (which I could see clearly from my room), but I couldn't hear a thing.
Despite the hustle and bustle that you'd expect from an establishment situated so close to Paddington station (less than ten minutes walk away), it doesn't take long to find some peace and quiet. Little Venice is just a short walk along the adjacent canal; a lovely place to sit on a sunny day.
As for the hotel itself; the staff were friendly, it was clean and nicely designed and I had a spacious room. I missed the chance to soak in a bath (there was only a shower), but this was compensated for by being able to relax in the little swimming pool, sauna and steam room on the mezzanine level.
One note of caution about said pool area though, there's not much privacy in the changing room. The doors leading to and from it are placed just so anyone passing can see you getting undressed or showering!
It was great to have free wi-fi throughout the hotel.
I'd definitely return.
When we arrived we took the Airport Train to the Paddington Station. From there it's very easy to get to the hotel. After a 5 minute walk we arrived there and the friendly staff welcomed us! The rooms were modern and appealing and were very clean. We also used the pool and the fitness studio and it was just perfect! The breakfast buffet was delicious and it had everything you could think of. Even if the train station is so close we weren't disturbed by any noise.
Great place to check in if you are in London!
After the unpleasant 2 night stays at the British Airways (package deal) hotel, we checked out and walk away from the 3rd night. So now here we are in a foreign country a half a world away from home, on the street dragging our bags behind us like a couple homeless people... hey wait, we ARE homeless! OK so it's not quite that dramatic.... but we do need to find another room for one night.
With our bags in tow we walked around in search of another hotel. After checking a couple places, we find this Novotel. It looked really nice, modern and contemporary, so we stop in and inquired about availability... it's not cheap, but we're in luck!
The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful, even if they didn't give any discounts when I asked (darn). ;-)
Our room was Euro modern and very nice, though a little stark. We both really liked the bathroom and the cool funky sink. The bed was a little firm (I liked it) but comfy and the room fairly quiet... a H U G E improvement over that other place, so we had a restful night sleep.
This Novotel is just 3 blocks away from the (large) Paddington train station, so it was very easy to get to central London. Also available is the Heathrow Express train direct to the airport, FYI.
The next morning we check out (very easy and painless) and head to the next hotel to meet with Bro-in-law before starting our Euro driving tour.
A very comfortable, quiet, modern hotel (no local feel at all) with lovely beds and spacious rooms which are very pleasantly fitted out. The staff was great, the food ranged from good to delicious, and the bar was welcoming. We had business meetings there and were nearly "snacked" to death. There was so much food I felt like a Hobbit.
It is a walk of about 15 minutes from here to Paddington Station, taking you past the interesting canal of Little Venice with its barge houses.
If you get a chance, try the Massis Lebanese Bar and Grill just down the street at Sheldon Square. Outstanding food.
The hotel is lovely! While it's close to Paddington station and convenient if you are taking the airport express, there isnkt much to do or see in the area around it. But London has the tube so that's not a big deal. The hotel was very modern - nicely sized flat screen tv, tub and a separate shower cabin, comfy bed. We loved the complimentary continental breakfast - it had everything you could think of. My only regret is that we checked in late and out early and didn't get to use the pool and sauna. Next time!
