Love. Love. LOVE.
This Novotel does the brand proud. its chic, with clean lines and stark brick work, glassy elevators and stylish rooms and corridors. The most basic of rooms feels like you are in the lap of luxury, with large, plump beds and black marble bathrooms. If you are lucky enough to be upgraded, there are roll top baths and a stereo system that runs throughout the extensively big room.
The rooms rates are not too expensive considering the quality of the place and the breakfast is really lovely too. Very nice.
When we decided to escape the city for a weekend, we looked for a hotel in Cardiff with a pool. We read some reviews and decided the Novotel was the one for us.
We arrived into the train station to find the weather to be the worst I've experienced in my time in the UK so far. It was pissing down with rain and we had to walk a fair distance to get to the hotel. Because of quite a bit of construction, the route from the train station is long and winding. It's pretty much the same to get into the centre.
Soaked through, we arrived to the Novotel and checked in without incident. We got to our room and happily put our bags down. It was way too warm for my comfort, so I turned down what I thought was the aircon/heating unit, and went to look out the window. On the way over I noticed a big red spot on the carpet. My husband and I agreed that it was blood. Now it wasn't a homicidal amount of blood, but a pretty big stain and it had the look of no attempted cleaning, which is just poor form. Gross. Chris checked the bed to make sure we wouldn't be sleeping in anything nasty, and we were relieved to realise there was nothing further. We did report this at check out and the manager was very apologetic and offered to let him assist us in the future when we return. I'm not sure that we would return, but I very much appreciated his reaction.
The bed was quite comfortable and we have the worlds nicest bed at home, so we're tough critics. Plus most hotel beds are awful.
The windows open, so that helped with the heat, but it would have been nice if the rooms had A/C. The drain in the sink wasn't working, so we pulled it out of the sink to allow the water to drain.
I was impressed with the pool facilities. There is one swimming lane and the rest is open. There is a hot tub, sauna and a couple of nice showers. We went down at 8:40pm and there were no children. It was lovely.
Check out is at noon and that was fantastic.
Overall, it's a good place. It's a bit further away from everything than we expected, and I really disliked the blood, but everything else was good.
This is a brilliant Novotel, from the minute you walk in and your greeted by the impressive glass atrium style reception you feel like your somewhere special. Its built in old factory type building and they've kept some of the features with modern walkways. You have to see it to believe it really.
The rooms are all very clean and spacious and the beds are a delight. The dining room is quite impressive and open quite late and if you have spare time the pool and gym are great for the price.
Location isn't bad either. Its not exactly city centre but that does mean it benefits from free car parking and its only really a 10 minute walk to the main shopping area, or too the Bay.
Even if you are just passing through the city, or staying a longer time, this could be a very nice place to stay. Impeccably clean, great service and a very reasonable price that would make it your first choice. Is located not far from the center, so you can either walk or take a taxi, which not cost you much to get to the seaside.Of course, UK is always rainy, so, you should probably have to take a taxi, so bearing that in mind keep some extra money for that matter if you want to go out during the night. But if you are not interested in nothing but relaxing, the bar has a variety of options that will for sure meet your expectations. Breakfast is delicious, even more after the huge hangover from the bar ;) and the service is top class in all areas. Check in-out is fast and easy. Rooms are large and nicely decorated plus amenities, room service is quite fast too, so the whole experience could be really pleasant!
A very professional service overred by this city centre hotel. The function faciloities are modern and well equipped. Staff cannot do enough to help you. The only downside is the £5 a day oarking fee - though onstreet parking 5 mins walk away is free.
