Found Nix on a whim. Excellent food and informal but efficient service. Had the veal - tops, and a very good Ribeye. Interesting mild tomato based jus with the steak but that enabled the very subtle mushroom pasta to come through. Taste buds well tickled!
Local wine option was good but might have preferred French burgundy with the steak. Highly recommended.
This place would not survive had it not been recommended by Rick Steves as the service is terrible and food very unimpressive. When we arrived we asked for one of the open tables outside. As it had been sprinkling we were told they were only seating inside even though they had numerous umbrellas. Ten minutes later after we had to sit in the stuffy restaurant we saw them sitting locals. When we were getting ready to order we noted tables around is getting food not on the menu. When we asked where that was we were told it was on another flatbread menu they never gave us. Wine pours were very stingy, even for Lucernw. Don't go here unless you want to be treated poorly and overpay for mediocre food. Rick Steves it wrong. Worst $100 meal, ever. See the pile of bones pic I posted.
We had dinner here one evening. The staff and the food were excellent! We were not planning to eat here but when we stopped to ask about the specials on the chalkboard (all in German) the waiter was so patient and the dishes sounded so good we decided to give it a try. Glad we did. I had the catch of the day which was very fresh and light with a hint of rosemary, my wife had the venison tenderloin and loved it.
Dessert was a white chocolate mousse with Bailey's Irish cream as a topping. It was a little expensive but well with the money. The food was inventive and the staff was very friendly and attentive.
We're going regularly to Nix's in der Laterne. The menu is changing daily and written on large chalkboards. The food is excellent - continental-Swiss with some Austrian influence; nice Wine list as well as by the glass. Service is impeccable.
We go often with guests to show off the great location at the river Reuss.
