Fantastic little vintage store tucked behind Whiteladies Road on Cotham Hill. I always thought this was just a fancy dress shop and indeed you can hire many of the items inside as well as purchasing a wide range of accessories from Indian headdresses to bumble bee antenna. There is a good range of make up too which matches the reasonable prices of the dress-up accessories.
What I particularly like about this store is the vintage clothing. Catering for both men and women, there is a good range of 50s through to 80s stock in good condition and at reasonable prices - dresses are around £15.
I particularly liked the bargain bin in front of the counter where everything was £5. There were a few dresses, a handbag and some retro men's shirts - all of which I had to dig around for but that's half the fun isn't it? Although I came away empty handed I would definitely come back here for a vintage or fancy dress fix.
It might be an overused phrase, but Naff Clothing in Clifton Village really is an Aladdin's Cave when it comes to fancy dress. The shelves are literally lined from floor to ceiling with items from wigs to face paint.
Unlike a lot of modern fancy dress shops, Naff is a great place to pick up a bargain. But I would avoid it around big fancy dress nights like Halloween when it gets impossible to move inside for giggling students.
This is a great fancy dress shop on Cotham Hill (which really should be renamed to 'Student Hill). I went in for a Halloween Costume and was easily able to find exactly what I wanted. The prices were pretty reasonable too, but I guess this is because they're contending with charity clothes shops left, right and centre.
I was very tempted by their wig section and nearly went for one in shocking pink, though thought against it - what's halloweeny about that? New year maybe...
A fail safe for fancy dress. I am a self confessed fancy dress kill joy; many a time I have found myself in the funky looking shop on Cotham Hill looking for an outfit last minute. They sell everything you would hope to find in a fancy dress shop, and they do it in their own funky style.
I think they know that most of the people that wander into their domain are under time pressure, and most likely trying to hustle something up for that night, because they have pretty high prices. The girl that works there has helped me out on occasion finding something to wear.
The best fancy dress shop in Bristol in my opinion. Has some gorgeous stuff as well as the usual range of accessories in pirate eye patches, fales eyelashes, moustaches, everything a young lady on the pull would need!!
You can buy as well as hire stuff from here. Some of the dresses for sale are really gorgeous and since everyone has now copped onto ebay, represent good value.
The staff in here are lovely and friendly. Though we were blantently just browsing they stopped to chat with us and recommended a forthcoming club night to us.
This is a great fancy dress shop. It's really fun and colourful and a really lovely shop. They make you feel welcome and are extremely helpful. Unlike some fancy dress shops all the costumes are out in the shop, hanging on the racks in all their bright, beautiful glory...tempting me to dress up as the space cowboy I've always wanted to be.
They have a lot of useful party/festival clobber in Naff, including chest wigs...perfect for those Magnum PI parties (?). I have friends who actually buy their sunglasses from this shop; they say they prefer them to the proper ones. So some of the stock is actually pretty good quality and not the tacky, cheaply made plastic costume items you usually find.
You can spend one minute in this shop and find some really fun stuff, things you didn't even know you need to be wearing on your next night out.
One of the strongest costume shops in Bristol, Naff Clothing is brilliantly located in the middle of studentville, thus securing the custom over the years of thousands of students going to terrible fancy dress parties. It's quite a small shop, but it's absolutely full to the brim with everything you can possibly imagine needing for your fancy dress costume: wigs, gloves, masks, capes, glittery bits, headdresses.
Just as I was walking along Cotham Hill having been in to see what Naff was all about, I was suddenly faced with a group of students all dressed up as Red Indians, larking about, probably heading towards a house party. You can bet Naff Clothing had a part to play in getting them dolled up.
This is a really good second hand vintage clothes shop. Next time you go to a fancy dress party, this should be the first point of call. In true vintage clothes style, they've managed to cram everything into a really small space, so like a few of the other shops around here it gets a bit difficult to move even with two people rummaging through the clothes. There's some real bargains and unique clothes to be found - I've managed to find a few odd ball things that were needed for various performances over the years. The staff change around a little bit, or seem to be different each time I've been in, but the owners must choose them well was they've always been kind and willing to help.
Who do you want to be tonight? Elvis? The grim-reaper? Disco Stu? A Hippy? Red Riding Hood? Naff Clothing has all these costumes and more! It has been my fail-safe option all throughout my university life. Being a student means you are bound to be required to dress in costume for one reason or another, and Naff Clothing has everything you need to have the best fancy dress at the party. There are brightly-coloured racks of costumes you can rent, as well as wigs, glasses, facepaints, coloured hairspray and other costume accessories for you to buy at very reasonable prices. For £10 you can buy an all-in-one costume pack so you can easily transform yourself into a nun, nurse, caveman/woman, police officer or vampire.
Naff have sorted me out in my times of fancy dress desperation. The clothes do come at a slight premium compared to internet costume prices but at least when you walk into Naff you get a level of personal service from the extremely friendly staff and you are able to try on the clothes that interest you. The range of costumes is exemplary for such a small shop. To give an example of a 'specialist' item stocked by Naff, they sell 'Charlie Chaplin' moustaches (read Hitler moustaches). So as long as you're not say, a member of the royal family, why not don an 'eye-catching' outfit from Naff at your next party and enjoy the attention!
