I was amazed at how long it took to drive here from Campbeltown although it's only ten miles! Not that it was any hardship as we passed through the most wonderful and remote countryside and watched seals sunning themselves on the rocks along the edge of otherwise deserted beaches. The final stretch was along a narrow B road (accessed via a five bar gate) and it was quite precarious in places  very steep and with quite a drop on either side. I was glad we had good weather and that there was no mist! At the end of the road there is a small area where you can park and it's then possible to go down to the lighthouse on foot. However, this is also a surprisingly long walk and along extremely steep hair-pin bends  the haul back up is a killer!! Well worth it though for the fantastic views across the sea of the Northern Ireland coastline.
There's also a pathway through the heather to the top of a nearby cliff where there is a monument to the people who lost their lives in the Chinook crash on the 2nd June 1994.
Of course, the Mull of Kintyre has been made world famous by the song of the same name by Paul McCartney and performed by his band 'Wings'. He lived in the area (at High Park Farm) with his first wife Linda in the late 1960s and early '70s.
