starting with a big praise: first of all i have always been happy with this hotel chain so far. the places in berlin, hamburg or munich were all cool.

and once again this stay at motel one alster was very pleasant, too. the rooms are clean and new, totally sufficient for two persons on a weekend-trip, the bathroom was very tidy and perfectly equipped, too and staff were very friendly and helpful.
plus it's situated rather handily close to the city cente, the river alster, the main train station and the colourful street of lange reihe. thumbs up!

since i am originally from hamburg i had a sneaky feeling though that the area was maybe a bit rough - but thankfully my fear proved to be wrong.
a definite plus is the tube station right opposite the hotel. ;)

so yeah it's a definite recommendation.

(single room about 69 euro per night, double room about 85 euro a night not including breakfast.)

This is a fairly typical hotel for this concept chain: small but well-designed rooms, reasonable service, very nice design, very reasonable prices. The idea is that you use the lounge as an extension of your room and that consequently the size of your room is not that important; and in this hotel this works well (although by no means in all Motel One hotels -- the one in Berlin Kreuzberg is a good example how not to do it). Service staff is friendly but occasionally a bit overloaded.

Tip: if you don't mind the noise of the main road too much (you will hardly hear it with your windows closed anyway), then ask for a room on one of the top floors on the Northwest (front) side, i.e. rooms ending in x01 or x02: they have great views across the Alster lake!
