I've been working out at Meridian since 2006 when I moved to Hamburg. I've seen my share of gyms over the years and I have to admit, after working out at almost all of the Meridian locations, this one is most ghetto. Unfortunately, after changing jobs, the Wandsbek studio is the nearest to me. Hence I'm forced to go here if i want to get in lunchtime workouts. I prefer the Eppendorf studio as it seems to be the cleanest and City was quite good. I am sure the newer the studio, the better. Nevertheless, Wandsbek is getting on in years. Further, the crowd that works out there is not really high-end, if you know what I mean. You definitely have a different crowd in Eppendorf. One positive is that the ancient weight room in back is still great if you are really into lifting heavy weights. Although the stuff in that room is dated, it still remains far better than many of today's modern machines. You have a solid squat rack as well as shoulder press rack and the ability to go heavy. The locker rooms and showers are also getting older and it's downright ridiculous if you have a locker upstairs and have to go downstairs to shower and then back up. Total waste of time. The spa area is OK but not the best I've seen and if I ever want to hit the steam room or swim, I prefer Eppendorf. That's rare but again, somehow this location has lost its luster. If you can, make another gym your home base. If you're forced to work out here as there aren't that many options in the area, try to get away and hit the other studios when time allows.
This Meridian seems to have the largest feel although the actual training space is the same as Eppendorf. I've been to Wandsbek, Eppendorf and my main gym City. They all have the same look and feel but different building set-ups. I like the City location because it's small and you don't have to keep changing floors. At the same time, Eppendorf and Wandsbek have better and more selection of machines. Eppendorf has the added benefit of having a climbing wall so if that's your thing, go there. I found that Eppendorf had the slowest staff. I've been going to the City location for some time now and their reception staff is actually the fastest I've experienced, meaning easier in and out at the reception. I complain about them being slow but Wandsbek were worse and Eppendorf the slowest and least helpful. Otherwise, this location as the others was clean and airy. Just as expensive as the other ones, with all the benefits and drawbacks this entails.
