I loved this hairdressers- will definitely go back!
I was in desperate need of a cut, having left it way too long as usual, and found that this was the closest place to my work. They managed to fit me in for a cut and blow dry the following lunchtime to when I called to book, which I now realise was very lucky as it is a busy little salon. (That said, still a relaxing vibe and no rushed, 'conveyor-belt' feeling as I have experienced in other more central salons.) The staff are lovely- welcoming and accommodating, and really listened to what I wanted, took into consideration my hair type and checked with me throughout if it was too much/ not enough cut off etc.
All of the products used seemed high end- organic or Kevin Murphy- feel great in my hair and there was absolutely no effort to try and make you buy afterwards.
Just as a side note, it is worth getting your hair cut in Malishi for the hair wash and head massage alone!
I had my hair cut here on a Friday night and was super impressed with the relaxing hair massage prior to my haircut. My stylist listened to what i was looking for, and had suggestions to ensure it would go well with my hair. I will def be trying them out for other treatments!
This is a low-key, family-run salon that has just the right balance of pampering and efficiency. I'm not the type who enjoys spending my entire Saturday afternoon at the salon, so I appreciate that I can get in and out in an hour with a great new cut. Having said that, they will offer tea and give a fantastic scalp massage, so it still feels like a treat. I've been to Malishi twice, for a haircut from Takashi. He is terrific at managing to give me exactly what I ask for, while making good suggestions about what he thinks is appropriate for my hair type. He is interested in working with you and does not try to upsell on other services or treatments. I have loved both the cuts I got from him. The staff are friendly (no snob factor) but not overly chatty, which is another thing I appreciate, since sometimes I just want to close my eyes and enjoy the relaxing feeling of having someone work with my hair without feeling like I have to hold up a constant conversation.
The prices are very affordable, with a basic cut at £35. They never push any products, and if you ask, they are just as quick to suggest a product that don't carry as one that they do. They carry both Modern Organic Products and Kevin Murphy, both of which I love. These people are great, and seem genuinely interested in good customer service, no attitude. Even though I moved away from the neighbourhood and now live across the city, I plan to keep going to Malishi.
This cute hairdressers on snowfields street (a gem of a street nestled behind London Bridge station) is staffed by Vidal Sassoon trained hairdressers and colourists. The service is efficient and friendly plus the cuts are fantastic. You don't get your normal hairdresser banter here as they are Japanese I actually think this is a selling point ! The stylists will give you a cut that suits you and your hair type and if they think what you want wont work they are not afraid to tell you. This is probably one of the best hairdressers in London and the prices are very reasonable.
Great little hair dressers in London Bridge/ Bermondsey. Run by two Japanese hairdressers, all the staff are lovely... its a really relaxing atmosphere and the head massage is AMAZING.
The colour is much better than what I have experienced in the past and they are great at recommending other styles etc. I would highly recommend this place to anyone recently moved nearby. although it is expensive, its well priced for the area.
Updated review after Jan 2014 visit:
Such a disappointing experience at Malishi today. After a 15 min delay (a common occurrence there these days) I ended up with my hair styled as a shoddily constructed birds nest! Honestly, I looked ridiculous! I suspect the hair wash hadn't included a conditioner, plus my hair hadn't been layered or styled appropriately. I looked very scary! I asked her to redo my layers, wash and restyle. In the end it looked fine but not without it taking 1hr 30 and me having to tell her what to do. They even charged me full price and got quite defensive when I asked for a discount! Finally granted me 10% off! Wow, after 4 years as a Malishi customer I need to find another hairdresser. Shame...
Love it! I had my haircut with Takashi and he was great. The prices were really fair and they even had a student discount. The shampoo w/ head massage was fantastic and Takashi was super attentive and highly skilled.
Highly recommend it and the location is great. Near Guy's Hospital and London Bridge station.
I never used to go to the same hairdresser time and time again, I just wanted something good quality and reasonably priced and never found it - hence the swapping. That is until a friend of mine gave me the number for Malishi.
I always commented on her hair as it looked really well cut. Anyway, I tried it and have never gone anywhere else since. The price is great - very reasonable, and they do a great hair cut. They manage to get the balance between listening to what you want, and suggesting new things. I have never been dissapointed. I've also had my hair coloured here too and was pleased with the results. Yes they are very friendly, but don't bug you for chat when you are sitting there - I just bury my head in a magazine and take advantage of the cup of tea they always bring me.
6 stars if possible!!
I'm very picky with my hairdressers as they don't always know how to cut short hair and I used to always go back to my hairdresser back home (in France so would only go twice a year!). Malishi was recommended to me by a couple of colleagues who have short hair and I wasn't dissapointed. Great cut and fantastic head massage - to be honest, I would even just go for the massage alone if I could.
I have been to many many hairdressers in London and I always come back to Malishi. I honestly think it is the best in South London. Takeshi is brilliant for colour and cuts, and you get an amazing head massage too. It's not super glam, but prices are really reasonable and it's a good service. The stylists are all Japanese and really sweet - I like the fact that that there isn't too much chit chat. It's really relaxing.
