“This couldn't be further away from the supermarket-type meat - everything I've ever had from here has been excellent - the meat is big, lean and juicy - even when I've ordered chuck steak - cubes of meat for things like stews, which are normally full of fat, the meat is of very high quality.” in 2 reviews
Amazing place! We always shop from here even though the prices aren't that low, but for the quality you receive I dare say they are pretty decent.
At first Macken Bros looks like your typical butcher shop, but in reality it is a place, where quality is the main word. The meat there is always fresh and everything is organic. On special occasions they offer for example turkey, lamb and burgers, which all taste delicious, but you have to wait for one since early morning hours.
The staff are all great too. You can clearly see that they are all very well trained and completely understand their work. Each one of them is willing to give you information or recommend you a certain type of meat.
It's our local butcher and each and every dish my fiancee has cooked with meat bought from here tasted delicious.
Quite simply the best butchers shop I have found in London. These guys's supply a lot of top restaurants so they must know what they are doing. If you go down on a Saturday there will be a long queue to get into the shop, be prepared for a twenty minute wait. I think that says it all.
They do everything meat wise - lamb, beef, pork, games, quails eggs - you name it they will do it (assuming it is English)
Traditional English butcher and very difficult to beat in my opinion.
Great little butcher's shop, with a great selection of meat and poultry. I went in for a pork shoulder with the bone, which they had in stock. I've found that many other butchers have to order this cut, or only have a frozen piece.
They were also friendly and gave a bit of banter. If I lived in this area full time I would shop here all the time!
Really really up on there meat here, they make their own burgers, like turkey and specials at xmas time.
They are friendly and very helpful, chatty and above all they go out of their way for their customers.
Order your turkey really early but id recomened the duck too and get your goose fat here too.
One of the most acclaimed butchers in London, which tops the list in many celebrity chef's favourite places. It's right near Turnham Green tube station and the queue at the weekend goes down the street! At Christmas time it is incredibly busy.
This is a place you need to go to if you want a top quality cut of meat or are looking for something hard to find
Had a networking event and had to feed people. Macken Bros never disappoints with the quality of meat.
Show interest in what you are buying and have other recommendations how to cook or what accompanies the meat.
Great recommendation with the burgers and sausages. Everyone loved it.
This wonderful butchers is located on Turnham Green Terrace alongside a grocer, fishmonger & a rather naughty chocolate shop.
I've never actually had a local fresh butcher that has been worth writing about but Macken Brothers have been an inspiration!
I can go in there without a clue of what to buy & come out with lots of prime cuts of meat, recipes & instructions on how to cook them & what I should be eating the meat with. Very good if you have friends coming around & need inspiration.
The service is very personable and they really do know their stuff inside out. If you live nearby I really would recommend a visit, they make it a real pleasure and you don't get service like this much anymore!
Great Butcher's shop. Amazing tasty meat and poultry.. The meat is great for BBQ!
This tiny shop makes queues that sometimes stretch out in to the sidewalk. That is how good the produce is. They source from anywhere in the UK, for organic, free range and naturally reared meats. From sausages to arguably the best Aberdeen Angus Steak in town. A very decent portion can come at £8 but once it is cooked, it really speaks for itself. Sometimes it surprises me that I can get to be such a carnivore but with that steak who wouldn't? My husband likes it almost rare which according to their expertise that's the way to enjoy its full texture and flavour. Many times I have thought of this place as a great idea for a creative fashion photoshoot, it just has such an impact. Possibly it is all the red meat hanging on the window display.
I have to agree with the reviewers here: its a cracking butcher. We love the lamb due to not only its integrity but is also so fresh it can only have been frolicking happily in the field the previous day. Beware: they are a real mixed bag behind the counter and there's one pretty boy who have a bit of chemistry with the wife. you have been warned.
Located 2 mins walk from Turnham Green Tube station on the District Line, the queue, which is sometimes out of the door, says it all. This couldn't be further away from the supermarket-type meat - everything I've ever had from here has been excellent - the meat is big, lean and juicy - even when I've ordered chuck steak - cubes of meat for things like stews, which are normally full of fat, the meat is of very high quality. Chiswick residents are picky about quality and Macken's success proves its quality.
Top quality butcher that specialises in organic Scottish beef. Very knowledgeable, helpful staff. Always has a well stocked range of most meats & cuts, along with sausages, eggs & some dry goods. Showing the owner's roots you can also get some Irish goods such as Taytos (crisps). Its one of those places that's packed on hot Saturdays (BBQs) and where people start queue from 5am for their Xmas turkeys.
Meat for all occasions - roasts, stews, kebabs, pies, pates. I'm sure if you asked, they'd even fashion some sort of meat helmet for you, replete with steak ear flaps for extra protection. For such is their meaty knowledge that people flock from far and wide to queue outside in the rain here. And despite being knocked off the road by their delivery van, I'm still a happy customer. I trust them thoroughly with all my meat decisions, if not with the Highway Code.
Mackens is the very best butchers in west London, the staff are always very helpful, the meat is very fresh and they will even tell you how to cook the meat if you do not know how to.
Christmas time we buy Beef to die for,Yum yum. Hung for a few weeks before we eat it, and the Turkeys also are the best in Chiswick.
If you have not been to Mackens then now is the time to get off to Turnham Green Ters and try it for your self.
one word fantastic.
I love this place. For 3 Christmases now our turkey has come from here and been great. Meat the rest of the year is good too. Go early to avoid queues of buggies. Last time I was in (June 09) they were apoligising for lack of burgers. Thanks to an order for 12000. Now this is a butcher :-)
Meat is unquestionably high quality. But the service and attitude is a bit too poncy for me. Overall, it's an annoying experience. Let's hope they can keep it up through a fatiguing economy.
Visited last week to see what it was like as I had been told about it. Bought pork chops and lamb shanks, which were excellent quality and flavour! Price is not the cheapest, but for the quality of meat it was very reasonable. I will definitely go again, although it is a tube or bus journey for me.
