I mind the gap in London. I also pay out of my ass.
For every penny I'd saved, I spent twice that in the UK. So to avoid overspending while overseas, I frequented the Low Life.
First impression- what a bizarre name, but my bff swears by it and speaks in candid worship of the bartender James, so I go along for the ride and mind the gap.
This little basement venue may lack in style and pizazz, but makes up for in its great vibe, rocking dj's, and effortless cool. Sure it's rough on the edges, but its treasures outweigh its trolls.
The mixologist, James has an uncanny way of creating just the right drink for you, even if he doesn't know what you like. He opened my eyes to taking shots of te-kill-ya in what I have to assume is a Londoners way of throwing 'em back. First you eat a grape, then take the tequila shot , and follow it up with another grape. Still didn't convert me into a huge fan of tequila shots, but puts a twist on the whole "Lick it, slam it, suck it" routine back here in the States!
Next time I'm in London, I'll once again choose treasure over troll and will mind the gap right on over to see the legendary mixin' bloke James.
This place goes beyond a joke for being overly pretentious with a pervy fat lad barman serving overpriced drinks to whomever at the bar has the biggest rack on show.
The interior is pretty dingy, although there are some pretty cool 'caves' although I'm fairly sure I wouldn't want to know what goes on in them.
Further, the aforementioned owner always seems intent in letting you know that the place has only just opened (although I have worked round the corner from this place for the last couple of years and have been in a few times) and that he has access to 'special new drinks' that no-one else can get hold of.
Wouldn't bother, personally.
[EDIT] - Walked past today, and the place was boarded up, I assume it's closed
Great little cocktail bar run by a fanstastic team who know how to make drinks. It's not too polished which means it has a genuine atmosphere.
Great weekend promotions. I only wish that they had a later licence. Well worth a visit ...
A great place to bring a date. chilled out and relaxed and really not as expensive as you would expect it to be. If you are on a strict budget, go elsewhere but if you want to impress a date, definately come here.
A great bar in the neighbourhood. Owners are very nice and welcoming. Cocktails are very good, and original. Music is chill out style and atmosphere is very relax, and makes you want to stay in the big couches for hours. You can walk in on a Thursday after a long slog at work and they will greet you with open arms and enthusiastically make you a drink. What else can you ask for?
