If you're in need of medical attention then Long Furlong Medical Centre is a nice place to be. It's a purpose built building, with plenty of space in the waiting room, and the staff are efficient and helpful.
They have open surgeries in the mornings - so if you're ill and don't have an appointment then you can just drop in. How long you have to wait will depend on how busy they are, but you will be able to see a doctor.
Appointments are made for afternoon surgeries and visits to the nurse, and I've never had any problems getting an appointment - they don't make you wait for weeks.
I have seen several of the doctors and nurses and they are all very professional, friendly and efficient. The surgery itself is always clean and pleasant.
The Medical Centre has its own car park, and there are usually spaces available - but at busy times the car park can be full and local residents get very grumpy about cars parked in the street. However, there is a community car park about 2 mins walk away with plenty of space, so parking is never an issue.
I have been coming to this doctors surgery for quite a few years, and I think it is really good, especially compared to other doctor's surgeries I have been to.
The reception staff and secretaries are really helpful and friendly, and never make me feel like I am a nuisance. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The building is quite new and modern, and there are plenty of seats in the waiting room. The toilets are always clean and well stocked with toilet roll etc.
Sometimes the doctors and nurses run a bit late with appointments etc but this is to be expected in a doctor's surgery!
Repeat prescriptions seem to be done quickly and efficiently, and it is usally quite easy to get an appointment when I need one. At the moment there is an open surgery in the morning, but I understand that is to change in a few months, so I will watch with interest how easy it is to get an appointment once this happens!
Overall, a good surgery.
Obviously my experience is very different. Why does it take 1 week to see a doctor ? I tried to book an appointment to see a doctor any day of the week but early morning. This was attempted at 11am on Monday only to be told the earliest would the following Tuesday. NOT GOOD!
I work full time (my own business) and therefore I am not able to have time off like most.
Better change surgery!
This is a purpose built centre on the North side ring road of Abingdon. It is all on the groun floor making it very aaccessible for mobility impaired people. There is an ample sized car park to the side of the building. The reception staff are always extremely helpful and caring and always have the time to speak to you. There are 5 GP partners and 2 assistant doctors, 4 women and 2 male. You can choose which doctor you see. They have a drop in morning clinic from 8.30.-10.30 Monday to Friday and an appointments system in the early evening. There are 2 nurses and one phlembotemist. The nurses are on hand for dressings, etc and run a travel clinic on a Frday afternoon. There is also a counsellor attached to the practice who is available to see via a referral by your GP. The only down side to this surgery is that it is not easily accessible by public transport, but otherwise excellent.
