This was my first visit to Lommerzheim.
I ordered the pork chop (the options are fatty vs. lean; I chose fatty and recommend it) and potato salad. The food was absolutely delicious and that was the biggest pork chop that I have ever seen.
The service was good. There was a steady stream of customers that continued to arrive after I was seated. So the waiters very friendly, but it was clear they were quite busy and needed to keep moving.
The restaurant doesn't accept credit cards, so be sure to bring cash to pay the bill.
I mostly enjoyed the ambiance as all of the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves and their meal. However, a major drawback for me is that there was no air conditioning or fans and the restaurant was uncomfortably warm and stuffy. I certainly understand that it's an older building that's been renovated, but I'm sure there has to be a solution to help get air circulating in the restaurant. This is the primary reason that I decided on a 4 star review versus a full 5 star.
Overall, I enjoyed myself and would go back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1057133542113 Aug 2015
Oh my god. Just got to Germany and came here for dinner. Best "Intro to Germany 101" class EVER. I now love Germany because this place is so awesome.
Come in. Don't dress in a suit and tie because there's no AC running. It's a lil toasty, but so worth it.
Bartender holds up two beers to see if you want them as he comes over. A coaster on top says no more beer, please! Empty glass with no coaster = NEED MORE BEER
The menu is in German, right? Okay, Yelpers have taught us you need the damn pork chop. It's so massive that you need a friend. Or "very big hunger," as our bartender said. With whatever fatty side you want, fries or potato salad. It's smothered to death in perfect caramelized onions. Praise Jesus. Wash it down with some beer.
Of all things, we also ordered a salad since you can only go so many days without a vegetable. This bartender was so awesome that I just wanted for him to sit down at the table and hang out. He treated us just like family and is just so genuinely kind. Anyway, he looked at me like "uhhhhhh... No?" When I asked if they had a side salad. Haha.
So I got a massive salad that was freaking delicious with a perfect dressing. Slightly sweet, not too acidic. Tossed with mixed greens, mushrooms, bell peppers, and a million other tasty things.
This bar has got the best vibe in the world. If I lived here, this would be THE bar I would always want to go to. Cheers to you, Lommerzheim.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Bill V.Cologne, Germany41372620 Oct 2019
Affectionately known as "the pork chop place across the river" by hundreds of American freight pilots, this is one of 2 must eat places in Köln. I give very few 5 Star ratings, but this juggernaut pub delivers the most amazing thick cut, moist and flavorful pork chop on the bone you will ever experience during your life on this earth.... yeah, it's that damn good.

The dam porkchops. WTF. 12 EUR for a tasty-ass, juicy pork chop that's large enough to feed me and my wife. Get the chops with grilled onions, side of fries, ask for their home-made curry ketchup, and open your throat to let the Kolsh beer in.
The service and place is a bit on the rough side, but that doesn't mean the waiter wasn't friendly... it's definitely a neighborhood bar visited by locals. No pretentiousness here so don't come here in fancy clothes.
This place is another gem that I found while visiting Germany. Did I mention the dam porkchops were only 12 euros???Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dayna S.League City, United States839212 Dec 2019
A great local option if you want to go where the locals go. A local pub and restaurant. Nothing fancy Lived up to all five star reviews! Get the fatty option pork chop with onions on top and definitely try the curry ketchup and the mustard. Remember if you don't want another beer, put a coaster on top of your beer glass!

Be there when they open at 4:30 or be prepared to wait. Very limited menu, pork chops or huge sausage with limited sides. All are great. This is a local place, off the tourist areas. Service is brisk but friendly, you will never be out of beer.
If you want real German local place, this is it.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jerry F.Austin, United States5181423 Jun 2017
I visit Cologne once a year for a conference, this time I stayed near the Koelnmesse. I'm always looking for authentic German grub, local atmosphere. Lommerzheim fits the bill. It's a local pub. Just a block or two off the beaten path in a more residential area, Lommerzheim has a home feel and great food at a good value. Note that this is a cash only establishment. You shouldn't need more than €25 per person.
The atmosphere is a pub, the staff are great. It's warm if you're inside so dress casual and light. The staff aren't big on conversation, especially if you don't speak German, but they are very friendly and provide great service.
The pork chop (Kotelett) is the main item on the menu. They offer a moist or lean version: when faced with that choice for meat I always choose moist. They also offer with glazed onions (zwiebeln) piled on top (yum).
Kotelett come with fries or potato salad. I can get fries anywhere but German potato salad (outside of Germany) opportunities are rare.
Food was great. My pork chop was a tad dry for my taste, but I'm a bit of a pork chop snob. I also prefer grilled vs. fried pork chop. That said it was great and I would (and likely will) do it all again.
Of course when in Cologne I have to have many glasses of Kolsch beers to wash down whatever pork dish I am eating. Lommerzheim serves Kolsh the same as every other restaurant: in small glasses that you can't keep track of until you look down at the coaster and see nine tick marks and wonder why you feel so relaxed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrew H.Seattle, United States1296091164 Oct 2017
I sometimes feel like restaurants can have two of the following: good food, low prices, or convenient service. This restaurant has good food and low prices but it took forever. Our baby fell asleep when we arrived at the restaurant and we ordered immediately, hoping we could eat in peace before he woke up from his nap. We waited for 70 minutes and the baby woke up from his nap before we received our food. It was good food though and 30 Euros for a dinner for two is a great deal.
It was so busy and this was a Monday night. People were standing in many of the hall areas and on the stairs waiting to be seated, with glasses of beer in their hands. It must be a zoo on the weekends.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rin O.Porz, Cologne, Germany01115 Jan 2020
Chaotic, but friendly
Take time when going there
Their German "Kotelett" is huge!
Prices are decent for the amount you get.
Looks run down, but cozyHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shreya P.MA, United States113319 Jun 2019
Authentic German cuisine, in keeping with tradition. I had the bratwurst, as well as their pickles and traditional Colognian bread & cheese plate. Fantastic food, we were lucky to get a seat.
