After a slightly nervous start as they had lost our reservation and the place was really busy it all settled down to be a great evening.
Good specials, good menu, wine list was good too. The service was super; attentive without being overbearing or intrusive. Costed out about £35 per head including wine and pre dinner drinks. More than happy to recommend.
Having a taste for haggis, I noticed that our local Loch Fyne (situated in the rather splendid old electricity sub-station on Duke Street) was holding a special Burns Night menu. This included haggis, neeps and tatties (plus a wee dram).
Upon arrival, the service at the bar was a bit tardy (I tend to be pretty patient, however the other members of our party were a little peeved).
Our table was situated on the mezzanine of the building, which retains many of the original features - I believe it served the tram/trolleybus service long since scrapped.
The quality of the food is very good - the haggis was a great starter, although I do have to make comment of the exceptionally small portion. Considering it was Burns Night - I did think that the haggis serving was a bit stingy.
The main course I chose was beef medallions - and it was absolutely superb, allied with quite an earthy Rioja. In fact all our party agreed that the food was fantastic.
The service at table was also extremely good.
A very famous restaurant in the Ipswich area, famous for its seafood that are bought in fresh daily. When walking in you almost feel like you are in an up class fishery with the wooden floors and see aroma. The bar is nicely kitted out with leather chairs to wait for more quests. The staff was very helpful and knew what they were talking about. I had the poached smoked haddock with with mash, spinach and peas and it was mouth watering good.
They have a small parking lot at the back otherwise a bigger one just opposite the road.
Worth a visit if you have about £20 p/p to spend on a main meal and drinks.
Superb restaurant, food & service. Went here with 9 colleagues for our Christmas meal but specifically wanted somewhere where we didn't HAVE to eat turkey & Christmas pudding. Very helpful when booking - offered us full choice of a la carte or mix & match off Christmas menu even though a Sat evening in December - very impressive. Had a private dining room & I wondered if we would be abandoned but the service was superb - all food delivered quickly & hot - time between courses so nice relaxing evening all round and excellent value for money - worked out with some drinks & tip to about £28 a head for three courses plus coffee etc. Would def go again.
