To be fair, I find all pizza in France to be mediocre which is why I can't give it more stars. But I was told this was the best pizza in Valence and by French standards it is a pretty good pizza.
75% of quality pizza is determined by a good crust, and France does amazing things with bread, so I don't understand how they mess this up. The crust is as flat as cardboard (almost everywhere i've been in France does this). I love a good thin crust but this off the mark for achieving a nice char while still staying light and chewy on the inside. I ordered the margarita and for some reason that comes with mozzarella and some kind of shredded cheese (probably emmental aka swiss). This is another typical French mistake. The best thing about this pizza was the sauce, which was pretty tasty, certainly more flavorful than most of the other places I've tried in town.
The service was quite good once I got seated. The reception downstairs told me to go upstairs and told me a number. Having never been there before (and not being French) I didn't fully understand the system and ended up waiting 5-10 minutes at the top of the stairs until I asked what was up. The number was my table number even though they aren't visibly labeled. Oh well.
