This kind of place is the kind of place that is hard to come by in Paris. This gem of a place is an old school bistro where one can sip on some terrific, affordable wine while eating various very traditional, authentic dishes. Many of such places have dissapeared over the course of the last few decades but this place has stood the test of time and has been serving up some quality dishes at some very affordable prices.
Upon arriving I knew that I'd have a good meal and the three of us were promptly seated. Some fresh baguette arrived at the table alongside some menus. We also glanced at the blackboard which featured some other specials. They were a ton of them, from boar terrine to celery remoulade, oeuf mayo and various others including goose rillettes and even escargots. Personally we decided to forego some of those and instead get a big plate of charcuterie (10€) which came piled high with goose rillettes, saucisson sec and some pork terrine. It came with plentiful amounts of bread and some cornichons.
My fiance had an onglet with shallots (13.50€) while I enjoyed a perfectly cooked piece of cote de boeuf sauce marchand de vin (wine sauce) which was a special on the board. Each came with fries and in both cases the meat was plentiful and quite tasty. Much like our appetizer plate which was gigantic and incredibly good, especially the rillettes.
Everything was fresh, everything was tasty and the atmosphere while unique was very Parisian. Our waiter was friendly at times but mostly efficient. The value of the meal was terrific and our memories of it will be more than pleasant. We really liked the place a lot and look forward to hopefully returning in the future. Definitely a hidden gem with a very balanced menu of simple but traditional dishes. They really do ensure that one has a good experience throughout each dish and while the establishment is modest, the fact that they make their own desserts and bottle their own table wine makes it that much more special; never judge this book by its cover.
