Not a bad gym at all. Pre-joining I have to say the sales team can be pretty aggressive, which nearly put me off to be honest! But once your in, you'll be hit relatively less, though you will get the odd email/phone call from one of the personal trainers trying to book you in for a free trial session.
Not used the pool yet, but have checked out the steam room, which is pretty small. You can probably just about fit in 6 average sized people.
Changing rooms are a good size and condition, the hairdryers are adequate, and I've never had to wait to get into a shower cubicle.
LA Fitness in Holborn is using deceptive practices in their advertising and contracting. They advertise a two-month membership, which I signed up for. I confirmed with the rep more than once that the term was indeed two months, and confirmed with the manager as well. I found that it is actually a rolling membership that requires 30 days notice to cancel. This was not disclosed. Apparently, negative news coverage has not prevented them from continuing these fraudulent practices,
For the money it's hard to beat as an LSE student, but the perks end about there.
It's small but [reasonably] clean. The spin studio is not divided from the aerobic and weight areas, and the pool is very, very small.
I'd echo the previous complaint that they don't do locker cuts frequently enough, or perhaps staff members are taking primo lockers - inconsiderate but wouldn't be surprising...
A few very good trainers here - Antonino and Chenna - are friendly and serious professionals; some of the others very obviously are not.
I'm not a fan of co-ed saunas and steam rooms but when I was there for 90 days back in '08 I found the pool small but luxurious as it was in a completely marble room. If you can get there when it's not crowded you can pretend your swimming in your very own pool room in a large mansion. The locker room is clean, the showers clean and the water hot. If you work in the area or your visiting the adjacent hotel it's not a bad place to do a quick workout.
Oh dear, dilemma. I mentioned in my previous review that I love the staff and classes but my gripe about LA fitness taking months to fix any faults in the gym still rings true. The air conditioning, which quite frankly was never very good anyway has not been working completely for over two months. Making the gym unpleasant, sweaty and every class hotter than a bikram yoga session. Today on one of the hottest days of the year, this takes the blooming melted chocolate digestive biscuit. The whole class felt dizzy, dehydrated and near to fainting. It is especially horrendous when you find out that although the staff at this gym have requested new air conditioning, head-office will not put their hands in their pockets to pay for it. This is ridiculous. Seriously what will it take for them to fix it, a mass pass out with everyone banging their heads on the sweaty wet floor? Please LA Fitness fix this, and in the mean-time at least get a fan for the tiny hot studio.
