Paris could really use more eclectic spaces like La Bellevilloise. It's really one of those one-stop shopping spots to fill any social need:

    Want..

...a place to hear live music in a dingy nightclub?

...to have brunch in a winter garden setting?

...to dine out with a group of 12 friends in a peppy, sexy spot?

...to enjoy an apéro on a sun-filled terrace?

...to let your kids run around and play in a friendly open space? ?

You can do all of the above at La Bellevilloise when the need arises.

Special highlight during a 5-hour birthday dinner with friends around a circular table with a giant tree in the center? The delicious cote de boef with homemade fries at 40E for 2 people and the 7E calvados night cap just before the place closes down.

I give this place 3 stars for the decor and programming but 0 stars for service. Like many other venues in Paris, because it is widely popular, owners/staff don't feel they need to make an effort on service. Even worse, they rip you off.
For ex: a glass of wine is 3 euros outside or in the club area, but 4 euros in the main hall, in an actual glass as opposed to a plastic tumbler. Unbelievable. Fountain Coke is 4 euros, so of course we pass and have more wine instead. For a club I find it utterly irresponsible to have soft drinks priced the same as booze.
But what bothers me the most is the in existent level of service and constant attitude. Been there several times now and had the same experience. I would flat out boycott this place if it weren't for the decor, ambiance, and programming. Looking at the brunch reviews though, am sure going to skip the 28 euro ripoff.

That said, it is a beautiful venue and I really enjoy their various events and clubs, esp the famous and incredible DJ Gilles Peterson at Tea Time, a regular club that happens every 6 weeks-ish.

So my weekend to visit my friends who lived in Paris brought me to this epic place!

From the minute you walk in you are taken back in time and yet met with a real arty modern twist.

This place is one of my favourite places of all time. It's so French, the style of it and layout the people.

The staffs were totally cool with my broken French when I asked them a question.  The place was packed but emptied out is quick to the downstairs venue.

€5 in admission which was grand but for the experience I received I would have paid 20! The band.... BAL DES MARTINE were playing, everybody was dancing with someone! It was WOW; I was blown away with admiration of the French people...

Congrats all round... I will be back!

    Sooooo disappointing.

What has happened to this once great place? It would seem a victim of its own success. Once we could wander around discovering all its many facets and now your privileged if you get a table in the jam packed restaurant. The space is still lovely but accepts way to many people and that would be okay if they could cater for it, but they can't. All six of us agreed that the food was appallingly bland and overpriced. I have never seen so much sugar in a cocktail before and still the 9eu mojito was tasteless.

The huge area we wandered into casually last time there, where we found experimental artists and music, was now a club with a half hour que wait. Don't they already have an underground club?

    Sad

Drowned, danced in nostalgia during theme-less nights.
