A relatively small restaurant located in the old city center of Grenoble. I dined on the " Filet de Boeuf fume minute au bois de sapin et creme au morilles et gratin dauphinois" , a lightly smoked filet of beef served with a mushroom cream sauce with morels and rich garlic cream potato gratin. Presentation was made using a flat square sheet of slate for the plate. A glass dome was placed over the beef containing a light haze of wood smoke. The dome was removed as the presentation was made allowing for a faint hint of wood smoke to signal the start of the meal. The filet was perfectly prepared and incredibly tender with the flavor of the wood smoke subtly in the background. The cream sauce with morels was earthy and rich without overwhelming any of the other flavors. Every aspect of this meal was executed with skill and attention to detail. I would not hesitate to recommend L'Epicurien to even my most discriminating foodie friends if they were in Grenoble.
My favourite French restaurant in Grenoble. It's kinda good country food, with a classic French style. Fantastic taste (I especially like the duck), great sauces, and deserts.
