Excellent little noodle place. Extremely friendly service, a big menu to choose from, large portions and tasty food. In addition to the standard menu they have very reasonable set menus when we went early on a Tuesday evening it was less than £10 for two generous courses.
Kymmoy offers a range of fried and soup noodles or meat and rice combinations from South East Asia, Hong Kong and Japan. The food is fairly simple, taking different common quick-meal / fast food dishes from the different countries. It reminds me of the type of things offered in a Hong Kong cha chaan teng.
The Singapore mee fan that I had was as good as I've had in some of the small local restaurants in Hong Kong. It's close to street food in Singapore and so isn't an especially complicated dish to make, just sliced vegetables and meat stir fried with thin noodles. The balance of chicken and different vegetables here was good though. It also had the slight oiliness that is required to stop it tasting too dry, without being overly oily like a lot of cheaper attempts tend to be. I find that it's always a slightly bland dish, needing a big spoonful of chilli sauce to spice it up, and this place was no exception.
My sister had the duck with prawn stuffing, one of several things on the menu with slightly fancier sounding descriptions. The barbequed duck (siu ngaap) was good, tender enough to break into strips and strong in flavour. It was covered in a thick skin like layer of minced prawn which offered an interesting juxtaposition of tastes, quite appealing at first but growing a bit heavy the more of it you ate. The main thing I didn't like about the dish was the way this prawn was brushed with very generic Thai sweet chilli sauce which made the whole dish overly sweet. This strong, but featureless chilli flavour reminded me of a lot of English Chinese food.
Having lived in Hong Kong for the last two years, its a little hard seeing dishes that would be about three pounds there going for ten pounds here. If you want to eat Asian food in England at all, though, this isn't a comparison that its good to make. Its better just to compare cooking styles and forget price. Kymmoy is quite reasonable compared to a lot of Asian restaurants in the UK.
My favourite noodle bar in Cambridge. Extensive menu covering a variety of noodle and rice dishes with meat eaters and vegetarians well catered for. Friendly staff and very quick service. They also offer the same menu with 10% discount for take out meals. Wine available by the glass and a selection of beers and soft drinks too . It's not a place to linger which seems to be true of all noodle bars, but with added advantage of all meals being served at the same time - unlike a leading noodle chain. I don't think that I've ever paid more than £10 for a meal here or needed to make a reservation. Highly recommended.
Great place, laid back good buzz. Friendly people run it. Quick service, tasty food. * Generous * portions - my noodles were enough for 3 people.
Recommended - def go back.
Very nice place to eat- in or take-way for lunch! Portions are amazing, clean, tidy, friendly atmosphere. staff are 100% on top of service.
Good but not great food for people convenient to Mill Road. I never had a bad meal at Kymmoy - I just always ended up wishing that I'd gone to Yippee Noodle Bar instead. Most of the noodle dishes here are quite good, and the portions are large enough for leftovers/seconds (or to split with a friend). The restaurant is usually decently busy but not completely packed; we never had to wait for a table.
Pretty good on most counts, a little expensive and the quality can vary a bit. But pretty reliable to make tasty food (just not outstandingly so).
it is one of the best noodle bars in cambridge. it is located very well, it is on one of the busiest roads in cambridge, on mill rd. the menu is big and there are lots of choices to choose from it. it is worth every penny of it. its a family place to go and its good for the children. they are very careful about dietry requirements. i liked the chicken dish with rice. they have enough variety for vegetarians as well. my daughter really likes this place. they have special offers in the take away menu. sometimes they have lunchtime offers e.g. £9 for 3 course meal which is fabulous. we often go there.
Just excellent. I've been going here regularly for years. Food is fantastic and cooked in an open kitchen, ie nothing to hide. Seafood is particularly good.
