You're getting 5 stars on the brownie alone. Amazing!
It's true though, you can't really stay in and enjoy the treats, but it's a nice place to stop for something on the way back to the office if you work in the area or grab a snack and take it to the southbank and walk around and make the tourists jealous.
Listed in: Coffee Break, I've got a sweet tooth..
Konditor how I love you :)
Tucked away from the hussle and bussle of Waterloo station you find on the corner of a cute road ... Konditor and Cook.
Unfortunately this Konditor and Cook has nowhere to sit down as it is so small, but really, the cakes are so good that you really need to enjoy them in the luxury of a bean bag or at the park.
I highly recommend the curly whirly cake, the carrot and pineapple, the boston brownie and a gingerbread ... that's just for starters =D
If you fancy something savoury they do have a hot selection and sandwiches at lunch time, they also do museli for breakfast, the food is really nice but of course needs to be accompanied by something sweet =)
You can buy a whole cake if you wish or just a slice and they also sell coffee and cute little cakes to give as gifts.
Do get here early at lunchtime as there is always a queue.
Please note: if you have not been here before, you may become addicted. I am not to be held responsible for any weight gain :P
This place needs to expand! I came in here one lunchtime and felt like I was in one of those strange Italian films where 200 hundred people all try and fit into a tiny fiat punto. I can see why everyone crowds in small little shop. It is like the adults version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
Cakes and chocolates took up every available millimetre of space. I elbowed my way to the front and gazed at all the cakes for sale, some in slices, some only available as the whole cake. The Whisky and Orange bombe looked decadently naughty, I paused at the Frosted Carrot, and then I finally settled on the Lemon chiffon, which was.... dreamy. Other sweet things there which took my fancy was the boston brownie with cranberries, and the double chocolate chip cookies. I made everyone that I was with get something so I could have a bit of theirs too.
The confectionaries here are a world away from the mass produced dross that you would find in supermarkets - if you are going for a calorie fest you need to come here. There are other Konditor And Cooks around London, in Chancery Lane, London Bridge and the Curzon Cinema in Soho, but this is the best location. You stumble upon it when you think you are walking down a residential street, which makes the discovery all the more sweet.
I like to eat the carrot cake here, if I can actually get inside that is. Konditor is a very popular little place, like a classy bakery, with reason of course, the cakes are absolutely fabulous. There are a few dotted around London but I have only ever purchased and eaten something at this one.
I am normally rather health concious but all of that flys out of the window when I am faced with places like this. Seriously. You feel full by just looking at what is on offer. The brownies are particularly moist. Try not to spend too much money because you will never be able to eat everything you buy, much as you imagine it will be easy. So just take your time, and decide on one (maximum two!) treat. And indulge. And then next time try something new. The carrot cake, I must repeat, is the best thing I have had.
