We had some friends visiting us from overseas and one of them is gluten intolerant and on Saturday evening he announces that he wants gluten free pizza in Munich (a tall order I might add).
After much searching I found three places in Munich that cater for this requirement. One called Nero in Isavorstadt which was fully booked and this one. The third place looked like a takeaway.
The place itself looks like someone's house from the outside and the interiors feel like it as well. The place is super casual and friendly and the service is really good.
They have a separate gluten free menu and it is extensive. All the pizzas, pastas and other dishes are all totally gluten free and they have gluten free beer. My friend had his first beer in over ten years (very special to have his first beer and pizza in ten years).
The pizzas and the Antipasta was delicious and well made. They offered us two choices of home made bread with the Antipasta and one was of course gluten free. They had a decent selection for dessert and I had the Pannacotta which was quite good. Their wine list was small but quite inexpensive and ok.
Overall it was a great night out and even though this place is a bit away from where we live I would go back here gladly. For €20 a head including three course, water, coffee and wine plus being gluten free is a bargain in this town :-)
This review also marks my 100th review in Munich ;-)
ACHTUNG! Restaurant is not on Hessstrasse, it is on Verdistrasse! It is a long walk from the Obermenzing S-Bahn station. Excellent gluten-free pasta. Waiter did not speak English or Italian, so I practiced my German. Gluten-free desert was tiramisu, I usually don't order it but it was excellent too.
