Hoxton Cars are the bestest!! I would recommend them to anyone needing a ride home from the Hoxton area.
My driver, Ayo is probably the best driver you could have. Ayo let me charge my phone for the entire journey home. We were very close to buying Ayo a birthday cake but he didn't want one.
All in all it was an amazing journey. Made all the better by Ayo the legend!
Not sure where they hire their drivers from but they're... rude, to put it mildly.
And SUPER late.
And the guy today fleeced us out of more than the fare!
Complicated story, but bottom line is I'm reporting them to the London licensing authority.
I like to give the neighbourhood guys a shot...
Unfortunately, I won't be using them again. It's a one and done kind of deal with me and car services.
Pet peeve: The Hoxton Cars web site allows me to click "paying with a credit card" -- but then the driver shows up (and I double check!) and of course the "machine is broken." Then I concede to getting cash, and he stops at a cash machine in middle of the road (and bike lane, as it were) and I nearly doored a biker and got run over. Not cool.
I'm not saying all cars have to take credit cards -- but if you take a booking under the pretense that the customer will be using a card (in this case, for work purposes) -- then at least have the courtesy not to accept it or to "fix the machine."
I even liked their web confirmation page that politely implied that tips for drivers were to be earned and that the drivers understood striving for good service might make this more of a possibility. Nice touch -- diplomatic. However, I was not so inclined to tip given that my requests were not met, discussed or even really cared about.
The driver was nice and the car fine, nothing special. He was on time and helped me with my bags. Without the credit card confusion, it's probably a solid 3 stars, maybe even 4. I was so annoyed though that I'll not be ordering through them again. With so many car companies swimming about, I'll just keep searching for one that is dependable, affordable, and keeps their word!
35 quid: Shoreditch to LHR.
The guys in the office weren't particularly friendly. When the cab arrived I lugged 3 heavy bags and a big banner out to it on my own without either of their help (although both watching me) and no help from the driver until I opened the boot of the car myself.
The car was messy and unclean and the driver didn't seem that interested in driving or what else was going on around him on the road, having to be beeped by other cars at least twice for not realising the traffic lights had turned green and he could continue to drive.
Even so, I wasn't overcharged and he did get me home safe so I'd probably use them again. Plus, I didn't have to listen to his life story as you would if you grabbed a black cab, he kept himself to himself which I appreciated as sometimes you're just not in the mood for small talk!
It's a cab office. They have cars and drivers. So if you need a cab... you know what to do!
With black cabs being as scarce as conventional haircuts in this part of London, it is most definitely sage to have the Hoxton Cars telephone number saved to your celly if you like to go out in the Hoxton area.
Hoxton Cars are cheap, reliable, open 24 hours a day seven days a week, and handily located on Hoxton Square. OK, a couple of their drivers drive a smidgen like they have a death wish, but if you need to get somewhere in a hurry for a reasonable price you could do much worse than Hoxton Cars.
They might be convenient and open 24/7 with cars parked around the corner ready to go, but all told the Hoxton car service is over-priced and over-rated.
I have in the past used them and feared for my life as the wheels felt like they were going to fall off, or as one of the drivers stopped in the petrol station on old street to get a new lamp for his rear right break light.
I wasn't exactly amused when one of their drivers told me a story of how they took an American tourist for a joy ride around Clerkenwell and charged him 45 quid for the trip from Hoxton to Kings Cross. Totally shameful
This morning a taxi cost 12 quid form Hoxton Sq to Kings Cross, and although not exactly exorbitant it probably would have been cheaper in a black cab. On the flip side though the rides to airports are economical and perhaps more competitive and less easy for them to really take you for a ride!
It's small, not particularly verdant and with few seating options other than the ground, but Hoxton Square is so handy for nearby bars that we're all bound to find ourselves hanging out here in nice weather with a drink and some friends. Lunch options nearby are excellent and Hoxton Bar & Kitchen is moments away for refreshment of the liquid variety, so bring your comfy picnic rug and settle in for a pleasant weekend afternoon.
they left me hanging for 20 mins.. driver was rude and had no idea where he was going.. not impressed at all..!! sort it out boys.. remember; customers paying you..!
