We stayed at this hotel at a special rate (without breakfast). It is hard to find, but located in a perfect spot, right by the Römisch-Germanisches Museum and the Dom. 5 stars for location, definitely.
You can walk to the train station. Quite useful when you arrive by train.
They have their own parking garage. It is not, as you may think, the one NEXT to the hotel. Though you can park there too (15 Euros for 24 hours). No, the parking garage is at the back of the building and you have to drive into an elevator to get to it. Quite cool, as I have never done this before. Beware with massive cars though, the elevator is quite small.
Parking was 20 Euros for the overnight stay.
We were greeted by really friendly staff and everyone we have encountered during our one-night stay was really nice. 5 stars for that as well!
Our room was on the top floor with a semi-view of the cathedral. It wasn't big, just like on the pictures, but I really liked the colours and the style. It was very clean with a complementary bottle of Evian water. It came with a stocked mini-bar at reasonable prices for a mini-bar. There is 24 hour room-service with a very good day menu and a reduced night menu. The food prices looked okay to me, but the drink were a bit much (5,50 Euros for a wheat beer).
But instead of eating at the hotel, you might as well enjoy one of the uncountable bars, restaurants or cafes just outside the hotel!
Excellent choice and at our rate a real bargain!
One of a collection of 5-star hotels around the Dom in Altstadt Köln. Now I'm not really a hotel expert, but I'm not sure this place can stand up to the likes of the Dom Hotel or the Excelsior.
For one thing, you would expect 5-star lodgings to have that extra luxurious quality to them. While the Hotel Mondial is certainly a nice place and very comfortable, I would not describe it as luxurious. The room we had was pretty small, the bed felt like I was sleeping on a wooden box, and the service was okay.
The breakfast offered by the hotel restaurant was definitely top-notch. I'm not sure if it's worth the €25 per person, but we had it included in our room package, so it was great.
Location is definitely the selling point of this hotel. If you're a business traveler who wants to comfortable nights stay in a convenient and beautiful part of Cologne, the Hotel Mondial is good. If you want a unique hotel experience, go to one of the other elite hotels in the city. If I were a hotel critic, the Mondial would only garner a solid 4-stars.
