Have you ever thought to yourself, "I wish I could be locked in a room for an hour with two to four of my awesomest friends in order to solve a bunch of amazing puzzles in order to escape the room"?
Yeah, it's not really something that a person probably thinks on a regular basis (or at all), but I think Hint Hunt is out to change that! Once I heard about it on Yelp, I decided it was definitely on my list of things to do, so I rounded up a group of people (Alex S., Shamaine W., Andrew M. and my awesome partner Tom) and booked us in for the office puzzle.
I'm not going to say anything more about the puzzle because spoilers, but what I can say is that from start to finish the hunt was amazing. Clues everywhere and puzzles to be solved. And the people who work there are amazing. They give you just enough clues to lead you in the right direction without actually giving you the answer to things. And my favorite part? When i was looking around the room and shouted, "Spoiler!" and spoilered a spoiler from a spoiler and spoilered my way to the spoiler to spoiler the spoiler.
And go. Seriously. Find a group of friends and give it a try. It's a bit spendy, but we were talking about it the rest of the night, and when you solve some of the puzzles, you get an amazing sense of satisfaction and glee from it. Especially when I spoilered!
It was so much fun, that I immediately booked the Zen room for us to try. I really don't imagine there will be anything Zen about it while we're in there, but it will be fun!
The real challenge of this review will to not give anything away. Because that's half the fun, discovering everything.
Hint Hunt was one of those things that maybe I saw before Yelp, maybe not, but when the five star reviews started coming in, we decided we needed to get on this. So we booked a spot for three months in advance because they were semi-booked up and that was the time we could do it and went in.
The idea is to escape the room. Once it begins you have an hour to figure out the mystery and unlock the door. Easy right? Wrong! Everything in the room could be a clue to a puzzle which in itself starts another puzzle and so on and so forth etc. I was there with five people and even with all of us constantly figuring out bits of different things, we still needed help (which comes from the TV above in forms of hints, hence the name.)
I loved this whole experience. It seemed like nothing at first. A tiny lobby you walked into and then led into a tiny room. Semi-disappointing. How wrong I was! It was bigger and more complicated than I could ever know. And so much fun
We finished with just about four minutes to go and then signed up to do their other room in another six months. Can't wait to figure it all out again.
We did Escape the Room in NY and I was immediately addicted to the adrenaline rush. So when I found out about the multiple escaping the room puzzles in London, I quickly went onto the website and booked a slot 6 weeks later. It looks like it gets booked really quickly, so make plans in advance!
The HintHunt space is unassuming, but as soon as you're in, your puzzlemaster introduces you to all the rules and lets you keep your belongings in the locked space.
You're given a whiteboard to track down clues (and red herrings) and the puzzlemaster gives you hints along the way via a tv screen. We looked at every nook and cranny which revealed many keys and long codes. It's great we had 5 people on our team because we needed all the brainpower we could get.
The hour flew by, we were having so much fun! We barely made it out, had a minute to spare, but the relief we felt when we made it out was palpable.
This place is BRILLIANT!! Seriously.
I came here with a large group of girly friends in the afternoon on a weekend full of madness (my hen party- eep...) The venue is actually on my route walking home from work, so I have wandered past countless times, but I had no idea something so fun was located here. Being locked in a room with your friends to solve puzzles doesn't really sound (to me) like it could be that good, but OH MY GOODNESS it was such a giggle (and a challenge!)
- The hints are great. You can tell they are keen to help you, and sometimes they are funny...although one of the hints was "listen to mum" when my sister was working out a clue. I think she was slightly offended. Oops.
- They split us into small teams, three groups tried the murder mystery room, and one group tried the zen room. They both sound awesome.
- I can't tell you more than that, because it's more fun if you turn up without knowing what is about to happen.
- It is all just so clever!
- The two staff that run it are reeeeally cute, and they are getting married soon. Give them hugs because they are so lovely.
- We managed it with terrible hangovers, so I have a feeling most people can manage it if they work together!!
My team finished and escaped the room with 44 seconds to spare. YES!!
You are 'locked' in a room. You have clues everywhere, hidden objects to find and things to unlock. You have one hour to open the door! GO!
So I can't really go into any more detail without spoiling it for you. Needless to say, the hour flew by and we opened the door with only 2.5 minutes to spare.
Great for a bit of team building. No special skills required apart from being able to find things, spot connections and work as a team.
Apparently, these are HUGE in Hungary but this is the only place you can do it in London.
RESERVATIONS ESSENTIAL AND WELL IN ADVANCE
Definitely check it out - a unique and amazing experience :)
I went with a group of friends for my birthday and had an excellent time.
The challenges were tough but we managed to complete the tasks set. You definitely need to work as a team if you want to complete this.
Great fun! I couldn't believe how much fun was searching for clues and solving the puzzles! Better than looking for hidden Xmas presents through the house :) We'll be definitely coming back for the second room!
