Large hotel - great for conference space.
Hotel rooms themselves are old and worn. For as expensive as this hotel is, I would hope that they are due for a room renovation soon.
The rooms are also noisy at times and you can hear clear to outside in addition to your neighbors.
Beds are quite firm and uncomfortable.
Not many things to see nearby - I suggest taking the tube closer into the city
Also, not many great restaurants nearby
The hotel breakfast was decent. It has many options to choose from but same options day by day.
Most of the hotel staff was super friendly. -
Review from Jennifer K.
If you are not here for a conference or some sort of business requirements, I would not recommend staying at Hilton London Metropole Hotel.
It is just too big... huge... and without any personality.
I know it is convenient close to The Tube...Paddington Station if you are taking Heathrow Express...
But...
The area is just not my scene... especially late at night.. I feel a little unsafe walking down the street alone.. ok maybe I shouldn't?
If you can get a good price on the room, and you just going to sleep here and shower then it is A-OK.Listed in: A Weekend in UK!

One of Europe's largest conference hotels... that needs updating badly.
Pros
- Staff were mostly friendly, helpful, and very international
- Location isn't the swankiest in London, but very centrally-located near Tube and quite close to Paddington train station (10 min. walk).
- Nice Costa Coffee downstairs
- A host of coffee shops and restaurants nearby
Cons
- Outdated hotel. Mattresses are 2,000 years old -- I could feel the springs in my hip. TV didn't work well.
- Japanese Fusion restaurant - decent food, but understaffed and outdated. Nice view of city though.
- My room had a great view of the street, but I heard Police and Ambulance sirens every 60-90 minutes!!
- Using WIFI is a MAJOR pain. There's a new code every day, and it doesn't always work. -
Review from John L.
This is a hotel with pretty much nothing going for it. Let me see. It's opposite Edgware Road tube. It has lots of rooms, I suppose.
On the downside:
- completely charmless
- poor showers and taps
- small room (got upgraded to a "deluxe" - would hate to see a standard)
- very understaffed
- expensive internet, that you have to go down to reception to enable every day (WTF?)
- terrible bar/restaurant at the top, over-priced and under-delivered
- location is pretty bad: there's not even a decent coffee place nearby
- TV channel choice is rubbish and the reception was very poor
Glad it's work paying my bill, not me. Yuck. -

London
There is a bar on the top floor which gives some good views of London. Drinks are on the pricer side but if you are in the area & are looking for a drink with a view, this is your place!
Oh, the hotel itself is a typical Hilton hotel, quite standard but good, rooms are nice.
It gets busy as they have rooms that they rent out for events.
Not bad at all! -
Review from Dave T.
Not up to a Hilton standard. Average but dated rooms. Check in service is very slow. Redeeming point is breakfast is well worth the £10 very tasty full English.

Got in to London and went to check in at the hotel I'd reserved and no record of my reservation in the system. this is BAD with a capital WTF! Not a fun way to start a trip. Instead I ended up spending my first night here at a low-budget rathole hotel because most other places want 3 days notice! ack!
ok, stop. breathe.
find cafe with wireless. get on priceline. gotta find something last minute that fits in company budget. fortunately, on Priceline at least the Hilton lets you pay in Dollars and their prices aren't adjusted for the currency difference. that makes a HUGE difference in price when a dollar is trading at ~50 pence because congress is full of idiots who are about to make us default on our foreign debt. That meant I was able to book and pre-pay for the room for $300 USD. Nearly everything else available on such notice would have worked out to closer to $500 and that's just not going to happen.
Get there and I'm massively relived to check in. Except that, once I settle in little things start to bug me. I mean, the room is prettier then the rathole and the view is spectacular out of the 15th floor overlooking Hyde Park. But the mattress is lopsided and hard which sucks and they charge 75GBP (~$150) for internet access for the week. That's beyond insane, it's just plain stupid. Of course, when I'm on the road my hotel room is my office and I *have* to have internet so I can work so I've got no choice in the matter. They've got me by the balls and no matter how I holler it's not going to help. So I grit my teeth and put it on the company card, accounting isn't going to like it but what can I do?
I thought about giving it a 1-star because I was so pissed about the absurd cost of internet access but added a second star because at the end of the day it's nicer then the rathole I spent my first night here in and the view out the window really is pretty. But if it burned down in a fire next year I wouldn't cry or cherish my fond memories of the place.Listed in: Hotels

Review from Shannon S.
We have stayed here in the late 90s and again recently in the summer of 2011. The location is near numerous shops, stations, and grocery and restaurants. Plus, there are numerous areas in which one can walk/run.
The Metropole has several restaurants. The breakfast and lunch at one of the restaurants were excellent. For breakfast, they have an enormous buffet with fruit, veg, eggs, yogurts, breads, and hot breakfast items as well. The lunch in the restaurant included interesting foods such as pumpkin soup, salads, and sandwiches.
The hotel also had a really nice gym that was open from 6:30 am to 11pm or something like that (really great hours!) It had numerous pieces of gym equipment. -

So, I will probably never ever ever stay at a hilton ever again. Not based specifically on this one, but on their business model in general. Charging for internet access at a hotel is obscene. Charging what the Hitlon does? Criminal.
No problem I think, I can live a few days without internet, I'll go watch some tv. Right? Wrong. Horrible channel selection. Maybe there are some movies free on ondemand? Nope. Well maybe there are some cheap pay-per-view movies. And by cheap I mean... 10 pounds each. 10 freakin pounds. Just no hilton, never again. -

I can't even remember my room. And NO, I did not drink alcohol ! LOL
Slow and small elevators. Comfortable bed but not memorable. No view out the window. Pleasant concierge. The neighborhood, Little Beiruit (spelling?) was a bit intimidating. Nice short walk to the Chapel pub. All staff very professional. Being called Madame freaks me out. This hotel was okay but expensive for what you get. -

I am very mixed about this hotel. We stayed here because we wanted a triple room which are hard to come by in London.
The positives: close to Paddington and Edgware Road underground stations; large triple rooms; excellent and attentive housekeeping services; decent buffet breakfast included in rate.
Negatives: TERRIBLE customer service; concierge service does not return calls as they promise; front desk is under staffed thus long lines; staff were not helpful when we had a smoker in the room next to us; ordinary Hilton hotel and nothing special.
We wouldn't stay here again. -
Review from Tony O.
I am not happy at all here... I was upgraded from the 21st floor to the deluxe room on the 4th floor with a great view of a run down building wall next door... Not just that but right under the sign that says "This room is WiFi Ready" there is a modem box that is connected to the dam wall!! I called front desk and they tell me sorry your room is not WiFi ready...
There is more room in this upgraded room then the rooms up top but the cheap wooden desk and the craptastic view totally makes the space problem a non issue. The rooms up top have a nice L-shaped fake granite desk and a spectacular view OMFG what a view!!
For a Hilton here in London I expected better, the elevators were also very far from my actual room.
I am... not a happy camper... I guess I will have to do an update after tonight!! -
Review from Ron L.
I was tired of spending countless hotel nights in rooms with just a bed, four walls, and a toilet, or worse, just a bed and a nightstand. Paying over £200 is also out of the question, which really narrowed down my search.
Along came Hilton Metropole.
This hotel is conveniently located between the Edgware Road and Paddington stations, which makes it convenient for the LHR Express, Circle, District, Bakerloo, and Hammersmith and City lines. Lots of smaller pubs in the neighbourhood to catch a pint or smoke a few with the boys...outside, that is.
What you do lose is character. The Hilton is a fairly new building (to London standards), and it has a sterile feel to it. Rooms are big, comfortable, clean; what else do you need? And oh yeah...all for less than £200. This place is high on my list for my next trip, especially if I bring the family. -
Review from Theresa W.
While the rooms are standard nice hotel rooms, the location and the lounge bar makes this a hotel I'd recommend. With two separate Edgware Road tube stations each within a five minute walk and serviced by several different lines, it's a really handy base for exploring London. I found it especially convenient as several lines were closed when I was there, but there were enough lines running to Edgware Road that I could navigate alternate routes without too much inconvenience.
The lounge bar is open to the public during the day, but you have to show proof that you're staying in the hotel for service after midnight. The bar's staffed by very friendly people, and they offer a very extensive drinks menu plus some light food. The very French, dry-humored, and impeccably dressed bar manager was friendly and helpful. The first night, I had the honey martini, which took ages to make, but was delicious. Drinks came with a small plate of veggie chips, mixed nuts, and potato chips. Best bar snacks ever! Especially the addictive veggie chips.
The next night, the bartender said that they were redoing the menu so most drinks weren't available. I let him have free rein on what he'd make for me, and he came up with first a strawberry daiquiri made with mashed before my eyes strawberries then something involving raspberries, again pureed right in front of me. Both were lovely and almost justified the hotel bar in London price tag. -
Review from Steve M.
Poor service. Business center closed on weekends. First room they tried to put me into was smaller than my bathroom at home. This place has some nerve calling itself a Hilton. Stay away.

A huge monstrosity of a hotel boasting over a thousand rooms churning out scores of tourists and business men day in and day out like a Chinese sweatshop. It's conveniently located one metro stop away from Paddington Station which is where you get dropped off by the Heathrow Express when coming in from the airport and just a few metro stops to King's Cross St. Pancras Int'l if you're planning on taking the train into Paris.
Pros:
- Breakfast buffet felt like a Vegas buffet, so much to choose from.. there's something for everybody.
- Location, location, location. The Edware metro stop is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel and got us everywhere
- Interior of the room felt dated but it was clean and spacious according to European standards
Cons:
- Allegedly the hotel has been going through renovations but it didn't feel like our room had been renovated at all even though we got one of the newer rooms.
- Mattresses were of motel caliber, you could honestly feel the springs when lying down
- Hallways constantly smelled like curry/left over food for I don't know what reason even though we were up on the 14th floor
Bottom line: Although I'm convinced this is not a 4 star hotel (more like a 3 star), it'll serve your general purposes of providing a place to lay your head at night and filling you up in the morning. If you can find a good deal, then just stay here. It's not like you'll be in your room very much anyways when visiting London - and if you are, I don't know what the f*** you are doing because London is an AWESOME city so get your ass out and explore. -

London
I stayed here for my friend's 18th birthday party and we had a suite for about 10 of us. The rooms were lovely but pretty standard because this is one of the Hilton hotels that is more catered to business men. It is quite flashy and gold, but that is part of its formula for their hotels, especially in the Middle East.
We ate in the hotel restaurant for dinner and it was really tasty; it was mostly Thai food which I love. For starters I shared spring rolls with a friend which were really nice, then i had Thai green curry with rice for main course which was delicious. For desert we had birthday cake so I couldn't comment on the desert menu! It was a pretty unremarkable hotel, but at the same time there were never any problems or glitches and we had a fantastic time. -

Summary based on several Hotwire stays:
--factory hotel, but service surprisingly friendly
--ok location with inexpensive breakfast alternatives close by
--hallways can be smoky, but rooms are ok
--busy lifts
--can be good value -

Great hotel for staying in great proximity to London and Paddington (for quick trip back to Heathrow Express).
- Breakfast is expensive, but worthwhile if you like large buffets.
- Staff is mostly friendly.
- Lobby is very clean.
- Rooms are not large, but are very comfortable. -
Review from Jonathan K.
a ginooorrrmous hotel with not-so-ginormous (by american standards) rooms. we were able to check in early (like around 10 AM) after arriving in at gatwick (took the express to victoria, then the circle line around) -- and we had our choice of rooms, either a quieter one with a worse view or one with a better view but closer to the elevators. we chose the one with the better view, and it was a good call. i couldn't hear any foot traffic to/from the elevators at all (we were only steps away) and the view was magnificent -- you could see the london eye and the gherkin in the distance without any trouble at all.
beds were comfortable enough. standard international channels (no cnn international?) on a smallish flat-screen tv. the shower had great water pressure and quick hot water, although there were some mold spots in the corner.
incredibly convenient to the tube (both edgware road stations are a block away) and there's a starbucks right across the street! (and a costa, if you're so inclined.)
normally i think this would rate four stars, but it seemed to be lacking something that i can't put my finger on. :\
p.s. got this on priceline. -
Review from rachel s.
From 2010 to 2011, I spent approximately 5 months in this hotel, staying in four different rooms. I stay here because:
+ My company has a corporate rate
+ I'm a Hilton Diamond member, and I covet my "points" as the only benefit of being a road warrior
As far as I'm concerned, the location is ace. I like the proximity to 4 tube lines within a block, and some extensive bus services likewise close to the hotel. The hotel is equidistant from Hyde Park and Regent's Park, and well within walking distance of Oxford Street and some great London tourist highlights, including Buckingham Palace.
The hotel itself, though, is somewhat disappointing. It feels kind of old and poorly organized. I'll say that the majority of the staff is very friendly and helpful (and extremely multilingual to support international clientele), and they do their best with the set-up their given. Please remember that my opinions represent having more or less "lived" at this hotel, instead of just being a weekend guest.
Major issues:
+ No wireless internet in rooms. It's the iPad era, this is just unacceptable. Be prepared, too: wired internet is only complimentary for certain Hilton elite members (Gold and Diamond)
+ The "Executive Lounge" is frequently crowded and understaffed. You often have to wait for tables, wait for food to be refreshed, or wait at the front desk for service while the few staff members attend to either of the first two issues. I also resent the omnipresence of children - or at least those of the screaming or unsupervised variety. Perhaps all this is more indicative that it's too easy to have "elite" Hilton status, but it also tells me that this space is too small, poorly planned, and poorly managed. There is wireless in the lounge - but due to the crowds/noise, I don't really want to be in there much at all! Personally, I would prefer breakfast coupons for the main restaurant than being relegated to this cramped corner of the hotel.
Other gripes, though perhaps of the more personal variety:
+ I have, on numerous occasions, been borderline heckled by hotel staff when leaving the hotel with suitcases. Within moments of stepping in to the lobby, somebody is trying to get me to take a hotel car service to the airport. No, thanks. Call me cynical, but this has never worked out for me - in London or otherwise. It tends to be some under the table arrangement between the hotel and somebody's uncle's friend, where money is shared between the hotel and the driver, and somehow I get screwed. My personal feelings aside, I'm most annoyed that even after declining the service repeatedly - give me my metered cab, please - they continue to persist in their sales pitch, to the point of annoyance and harassment.
+ I have found 3 of my 4 rooms to be overwhelmingly hot at night. The A/C is clearly running, but there's poor circulation and it's just not cold enough. When you're under a thick duvet (the only blanket in the room), it's stifling to say the least. I finally complained when the temps outside reached 80 and my room was just as sweltering: thankfully, when I asked for a fan they obliged, and I was finally able to sleep at night.
+The rooms just aren't terribly comfortable. The bed leaves a lot to be desired, and the pillows are nothing more than glorified foam. And these are the "Executive" rooms, to boot. They don't feel updated in the least. In 2010, I had a room with a shower stall - that was nice - but ever since I've been in rooms with bathtub showers that are terrifying to step in and out of with a ridiculously high tub rim, and then a tub floor that is higher than the bathroom floor. It's hard to explain, and maybe it's just European styling, but let's just say that every time I try to get in or out of the shower I legitimately fear slipping, falling, and hurting myself. I'm not terribly familiar with European standards, though, and other reviewers might be correct that these rooms are far beyond what I might encounter elsewhere in London.
+The lobby design is chaotic, at best. There is literally a single corridor from the main entrance (at Edgware & Praed). This means that between the revolving door entrance (which is always stopping because people can't manage to keep their hands off of it) and the elevators to the rooms, there is a single 50 yard strip of real estate that accommodates all check-ins, check-outs, and the concierge. People congregate in this cramped area like it's their job. With all their luggage. This makes it near impossible to get to my room without navigating a sea of obstacles. What I'd really like to see is some better hotel management: asking people to queue better, or suggesting they move out of the way with their luggage. They let people block traffic and create hazards as if it's no big deal, but I beg to differ. Perhaps the design of the building is too hard for the staff to overcome in this instance, but I resent having to break out my sharpened elbows just to get to my room. -
Review from Tri D.
The room was small and a bit tired, but the rest was typical Hilton. Close to two tube stations as well as affordable ethnic restaurants, so the location is convenient.

Review from Michael D.
I had originally booked 5 nights in this place for a medical conference. When I arrived, I was majorly disappointed. The place is near the Paddington train station, and the area is pretty seedy looking. The neighborhood looked no different than any bad part of any given American metropolis. You would not see Hugh Grant walking around this neighborhood. Any romantic vision of London was shattered. The hotel itself, was a little disappointing as well. The lobby and general areas were okay...however, the rooms were a little bit worn, and dated, not what you would expect from such an expensive hotel. The worst part of it was that they charged you a sh--load for room wireless. Wireless should be free, in my opinion, especially in a hotel that caters to conferences and businesses. Despite the high wireless charge, I paid the charge, mainly because I needed it to research other hotels in the London area. That evening, using the ripoff wireless services, I found a much better hotel in a better neighborhood for a lower price, and with free wireless included. I checked out of this hotel two days early. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone who does not have a very good reason to be here.
Oh, I should mention that there are some positives, which prevents it from being one star. The breakfast buffet, which was included in our reservation, was surprisingly good. Also, the hotel is very close to the Edgeware Road tube stop. -
Review from Tom I.
This is Hilton, so the rooms are what you'd expect, but customer service is HORRIBLE. Forget your Silver or platinum Hilton Honor membership at check in, because they won't honor you and keep you in line with other customers. Concierge desk is a joke, mine as well hit an internet cafe and do your own search. We headed to a top floor restraunt for drink and dinner, but despite empty seating everywhere, they told us to come back in 1 hour because we didn't make reservation. My company is not using this hotel, ever. Spend the same amount of money at other hotels. Move on.

Making the big move to London was me, husband and two little boys. Well guess what? A glitch with our house left us jet lagged and homeless. Our first night was spent at this Hilton. It was lovely to have adjoining rooms to get some space after being cooped up on a plane for 9 hours. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast was ok, and the staff was friendly. The shower in our room was horrible. I think they adapted a power washer with a shower head. I thought I was going to lose precious body parts. Oh and they have to lose a star for not providing instructions on how to work the lights in the rooms. Get this, you have to take your room key and put it in a slot by the door to make the lights in your room work. Who ever heard of such a thing? After a good 20 minutes of feeling like a dork, my husband came back and showed me what to do. Thinking it must be a UK thing, I was relieved to find out he has never seen it before either. Except the last time he stayed here on business. Over all, it was a very nice experience in a nice hotel minus the not knowing where we were going to stay after that. But I can hardly blame that on Hilton.

Review from Jackson Z.
great little (or shall i say not so little) hotel. Very conveniently located within a 1 min walk from edgeware station 1 station away from paddington connecting every single form and line of locomotive transport. Being the biggest hotel in Europe, you'll find plenty of rooms, however it is so busy, often times it's sold out, especially on the weekends. A new building so not much victorian design to see here, but the lobby is massive and open, and the rooms are quite spacious for UK standards. As mentioned before, yes the halls can be quite odorous. Smell of smoke and cooked food makes it quite unpleasant at times. But the smell doenst get into the rooms and I hope you wouldnt be spending much time in your hotel hallway in such a vibrant city anyway... Location is convenient, but it's not smack dab in the busiest part of london. Plan on hoping on a tube to head to places as you wont find Buckingham palace or Picadilly at your doorstep. And of course, enjoy your ride on the supersonic speed elevators taking you from G to 15th floor in 20 seconds! No worries for those motionly challenged either, as you wont feel your stomach coming to your throat in this one.
