I love love love theHaymarket Hotel. I've been here twice for afternoon tea, which is around 20 quid but well worth it. They give you as much sandwiches, cakes, and of course tea as you want.
We had been waiting for about 10 minutes after ordering and the maitre d (i can't spell in french) came over and said we had been waiting too long and that he would bring over a complimentary bottle of champagne. hows that for service! (and we hadn't even been waiting that long).
While the tea and service is good, what i love most about this place is the decor. The conservatory is so cute. And they are always willing to give you a tour. The pool area is also really cool.
Just go and have a tour and you will see how awesome it is. and everyone is friendly...not stuck up like some fancy hotels. ... JUST GO!
Brumus at Haymarket Hotel - Thoroughly decent afternoon tea.
I came with a ladyfriend on a rather horrid, sleety day, so we were extra happy to be cosily ensconced in a window table at Brumus. I think the burgundy colour scheme was designed for days like that! The room is remarkably quiet, given the chaos of Haymarket just beyond the panes.
We had the Haymarket Tea (£18 (plus service) ). Proper afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, and little desserts. Everything was as it should be - sandwiches savoury, cream thick and yellow, desserts cute, varied and moreish. The scones were perhaps slightly too crisp on the outside for moi, but I don't consider myself a scone connoisseur. A sconnoisseur?
Service was not entirely attentive - we had to flag them down once or twice - but extremely friendly and helpful, so they were forgiven. We were offered refills of tea and sandwiches without asking, which is great because you don't feel like such a greedy guts.
I have to say that it was not up to the standard of tea at Claridges - but at nearly half the price, that's fair enough.
We spent three hours there, and left stuffed. Result.
Note: I didn't stay at the Haymarket Hotel, but what I did do was have afternoon tea and get a tour of the place.
Upon entering the hotel, I already had a great impression of the place. The doormen were all smiles, the reception was warm, and the host of the dining room for afternoon tea was witty, chatty and accomodating. After perusing through different afternoon tea deals, not wanting to settle for a cheap cafe-type experience yet not willing to pay £30 for the Ritz, I took my visiting friends here for their pommery champagne afternoon tea (including VAT was about £22). This included sandwiches, pastries and cakes, tea, and a glass of bubbly per person. We waited a bit longer than expected to get our orders, which the host spotted, and immediately gave us a free bottle of champagne -- AWESOME. The teas were great, as was the food. Not to mention the sandwiches and cakes/scones are all limitless, so you can top up as much as you want. The place was gorgeous too. Took a look at the conservatory, where you can also have tea (but was full), and was beautiful. The host offered to take us on a tour of the bar and pool area... oh my god. Even the bathroom was gorgeous.
Spent basically 3+ hours there for afternoon tea. Great atmosphere, great service, and definitely worth the price. AMAZING time.
