I was at the Hatton Arms last night for my cousin's 18th birthday with all the family. What a lovely pub!
It's set just outside the charming village of Stockton Heath and has that country pub feel without having to venture too far from civilisation.
The bar stocks some good ales but I opted for Old Mout Cider, a fruity little number that was perhaps a bit too easy to drink, hence a sore head this morning.
There's a lovely beer garden out the back with picnic tables, parasols and plenty of grass space for kids to run around.
Staff are friendly and the locals seem like decent folk ( I certainly didn't spot any track suits, which is always a good sign).
Food wise, we were treated to a delicious buffet of Thai fish cakes, chicken wings, salad and pulled pork, which was delicious. So judging by this, I would imagine their everyday food menu is pretty good too.
Although I've not been due to lack of time, reports from friends not on the internet are that there have been major changes now! The food set-up is much more in evidence than previously, but the pub still retains the friendly character it has always had.
Although this pub is very out of the way, it is well worth finding as the only changes over the past twenty-odd years are fresh paint and an extension to cater for the foodies in a more suitable setting. I believe the previous owner threatened to physically throw out a rep who suggested they change the image by putting in a jukebox.
Despite this, it is a very friendly pub to anyone prepared to be friendly back.
The beer is always highly drinkable and well-presented.
This place is a little gem, visited twice and a return visit planned! Food is as tasty as you will find and the staff are very friendly and attentive.
The menu i suppose could be more varied BUT what you are offered caters for most people.
You must try the home made chips and if its on the apple crumble.
