We were unsure of what to do this evening eat in or dine out. There is a limited choice of restaurant in Llandudno, and, usually end up with KFC.
Before we left my wife suggested the new American restaurant (Harvey's) on the site of the old Burger King for those old enough to remember!
En route my wife commented that if it wasn't open at least we could look!
Upon arrival the restaurant looked busy, unsure if we would be allowed a table we decided to enter.
We were met by a very polite waitress with an American accent, who promptly showed us to a small table for two however before I could park my rear the waitress returned and moved us to a larger booth closer to the kitchen!
This was not a problem as we were closer to the kitchen and could see the food being prepared/served and also gave us a better view of the restaurant. Two menu's were left and the waitress disappeared to give us chance to decide upon our meal.
The menu has a good selection of starters to suite everyone, main courses including pizza's and a small selection of deserts.
My wife chose the Pulled Pork and I ordered the Harvey's Double. As all of the food is cooked to order there is a wait of about 15/20 minutes, acceptable to me as it gives chance to talk and look around the restaurant. This restaurant is tastefully decorated similar to an American diner, but nothing too garish or outlandish. Background music typical american rock & roll and Motown (I didn't expect anything else!!).
Both of the meals arrived at the same time something that usually doesn't happen in most restaurants and looked extremely appetizing.
Both were served on platters, both meals presented in the same fashion, open top burger buns. The top covered in fresh salad garnish and a slice of beef tomato. Fries served in an enameled mug (Wow!!). Onion rings that have real onion inside and fit inside each other!!
The Pulled Pork is delicious, literally melts in the mouth. The burgers flame grilled with lovely crisp edges but still well cooked and moist in the middle.
Prices in my opinion - good for the food offered, remember this is a restaurant not a counter that you order/collect your pre-cooked food from then find a seat & eat it!
Staff all polite, very pleasant and nothing too much trouble, we were also left alone whilst eating nobody pestering to see if there was anything else we required or if we were enjoying our food this I like.
Overall without sounding sexist - one of my wife's better decisions!! We will definitely be returning soon.
Went at lunch time. It wasnt really busy. The staff were very nice and efficient. You can see the kitchen area through the hatch and that is a nice touch. The portions are very good and well presented. The American burger was lovely and the shared starter.
My partner and i have been to Harveys twice now. I'd like to say we love it, but there is room for improvement. It has a Frankie and Benny's feel to it, but on a budget. Limited drinks, Staff don't seem to know what there doing, and there can be a long wait for the food. The food itself is lovely, although for some reason they like to serve it on paper, which always disintegrates and gets in with your meal. The drinks choice is also a bit limited. I understand it hasn't been running for that long, so perhaps it just needs some time to straighten some errors, as it could be fab. I would recommend the food, but be prepared for a long wait, sloppy service and a large bill.
I had a pretty bad experience at Harvey's. My burger bun
fell apart so my burger filling went everywhere, I then started to eat it with
a knife and fork and realised the burger was burnt so I didn't eat it all. I
had ate about a third of it by the end. I asked the waiter to take it back,
telling him it was burnt and I couldn't eat it. When it came to paying the bill
they had left the burger on the bill, so I asked to have it taken off. To sum it up I was
accused of being a liar by the waiter 'George', who was working behind the till.
I had to ask for his name because no one had name badges, which working in the
customer service industry myself, I see as a ruse to avoid complaints because staff
are anonymous, it gives them a carte blanche to treat you badly. He was
extremely rude to me, to the point where I turned around and told him that if
had spoken to a customer like that in my workplace, it would no longer be my
workplace. He did feel the need to inform me, in a condescending tone that 'no
one has ever complained about my attitude before'. Really? Well I do not enjoy
being made to feel guilty about complaining about poor quality. I was then informed that I had ate most of the burger, but
they could not confirm that because it had already been thrown away. (I also
struggled to understand how they knew I had ate most of it then?) And that if I
was telling the truth, then why did I not send the burger back straight away? I
informed them that after waiting, expecting someone to come and ask if the meal
was ok, which they normally do in such expensive places, (it's called service),
I had tried, but to no avail, to get the attention of a staff member. When I finally
did, I made my complaint and asked for the bill because the person I was with
had already finished. After all this they knocked £5.00 off my £12.00 burger. I don't
know about anyone else, but I have never been somewhere where you are expected
to pay because you have ate a few mouthfuls of the awful food. Unfortunately
this is the second time I have been there, it was bad the first time but I didn't
say anything because we all have bad days, but today it was me who had the bad
day. That is why I am now writing this as a warning for anyone else, eat there
at your own peril. Overpriced and overcooked.
Went with the family yesterday and had heard a few negative comments about the place but we all wanted to try it out for ourselves judging by the dates on the 1 star reviews here many of the bad experiences were in the first few weeks of opening. I can say it seems many of the issues described seem to have been resolved and I would recommend a visit to Harvey's for something a bit different to your usual cheap chinese, pub grub or fish and chips on offer in the area.
Staff were very proffesional and courteous and I like the idea of being able to see into the kitchen. Between us we had burgers, buffalo wings, pizza, rack of ribs and pulled pork and it was all lovely. Rib eye steak was about 15 quid but you could get a burger for about 7.
Would be good to see an american style eating challenge on offer aka Man v Food :)
We decided to visit Harvery's the other day now that it's had some time to settle and as they had a Winter offer of selected meals for £4.99 between the hours of 11am and 3pm. Staff were very attentive and the furnishing and decor inside are very nice indeed. After ordering our meal with the waiter, we were given a cup of complementary popcorn which was a very nice touch. I had the fish burger, while my friend had an ordinary burger. The food was very well presented. The burgers came open on a tray, with the filling placed on one bab, while the garnish was ontop of the other, so you could amend the burge rto your liking before tucking in, while the fries came in a cup. Quality wise, we both thought our meals were average, nothing spectacular. The portions of the burgers were quite small, while the fries tasted like a mix of Curly Fries and standard chips if that makes sense? They were a good portion however and bigger in size that American fries you get from the supermarket. Defintley worth giving Harvey's a go, especially while their Winter offer deal is running, but it may impress you more if you order the more expensive meals you can't get from other restraunts in the area.
Went in in early April 2013 and can only assume that any earlier neg reviews were due to possible teething troubles. We were well served and the food was good if a 'little' dearer that average for the town , but not by a lot. It was quite busy but we had no appreciable delay and the pulled pork was just right, I could go on but the bottom line is that the place seems to be greatly improved and we will definitely go back again.
nice place,good food
