I'm in Berlin often, and when there I try to make sure I have the opportunity to have dinner at Hangi. The small, under-designed establishment lacks the stylish flair which so many sushi spots bend over backwards to gain. What it lacks in flair, however, it makes up in excellent sushi.
Hangi's menu selection is traditional, but there's something for everyone. They take their soup very seriously and large portions of Misu can be ordered in a nicely sized bowl, both to take out or to eat in. Their sushi selection is similar to to what you may expect from other sushi establishments, the fish always tasty and the rice well packed.
If you're not sure what to order, try their Yakitori as an opener. From the sushi menu, their California Roll is outstanding, their salmon nigiri being especially good. Try their lemongrass tea on the side.
I'm a big sushi fan, but extremely picky about my Maki and have been known to return half-eaten pieces of Nigiri to the chef. This doesn't happen at Hangi - it seems they prepare their sushi with love and it shows.
