This is a gorgeous Japanese restaurant. You basically sit at a communal dining table and the chef's cook on a huge hot plate right in front of you! They're really clever and lots of little tricks for you, and you're never waiting long before the chef pops more food onto your plate. The service is excellent, the staff are attentive and will clear us empty glasses promptly and offer more drinks.
The sushi here is gorgeous and there's a huge choice! I recommend having a set banquet meal so you can try a nice variety of things. The food is so fresh and lovely!
It is quite expensive but well worth it.
Extremely low standard of food in terms of quality. The entertainment is brilliant - not so much the food! Not exactly authentic. The "scallop" was interesting to say the least. Most meat fresh or given from the kitchen is very rubbery. All flavours very generic or store-bought. Tastes anything but fresh. Not worth the money, unless you ONLY wish for the entertainment factor.
I was recommended this place by a friend. Me and my girlfriend went and it was lush!
Has to be tried at least once. If you are up near Newcastle, get over
This is a great place for some quality Japanese food. They have square seating areas, everyone sits around facing the middle where the chef stands to cook the food so you can see exactly what you are going to eat! If you are lucky the chef might let you try out one of his tricks too you get to wear an apron and a chef's tall hat and you have to try and throw a raw egg in the air and catch it in your hat! Needless to say most people don't manage and the egg ends up splattering all over someone else or on the floor...
It's great fun for all, especially families and big groups of mates- ideal for a birthday party as it really gets everyone involved and the seating makes it easy to see and chat to everyone. The food is excellent and I would recommend going for a set menu which includes both meat and fish- that way you get to try a bit of everything and the king prawns are to die for!
Tried this place for my 25th Birthday a few yrs ago, it was fab, unusual, tasty and we were well looked after. The chef had us playing a game with a hat & some raw eggs and we really enjoyed the evening .... must return soon :)
Had a good laugh here, we went with friends and had to flip the egg into the chefs hat. Good fun night out
I love hanahana, it never gets old! The food is fantastic, its a real treat to eat there. As the chef cooks the food on hotplates in front of the guests, it is more entertainment then eating. The egg game is always a good laugh, I managed to flip it in to someones beer! The bar staff quickly replaced the guys beer free of charge! Oops! You are there for a good few hours and its a brilliant night out. I am a bit picky about meat but there are so many meals to choose from there is something for everyone.
Decent price, decent food :)
Something a little different Hannah Hannah is an entertaining experience as well as great eating experience and to be fair not that expensive given the fact that you are doing something out of the ordinary. Not for the squeamish mind as the cookery, although highly entertaining, involves cooking on a massive hot plate in front of you and the sea food banquet can end up doing a a tap dance all of its own!Well.at least you know its fresh.
Hanahana is a great restaurant, with tasteful and authentic decor, courteous and efficient staff and most importantly, terrific food. Ive been a few times for their lunchtime specials, which are exceptionally cheap considering the freshness and overall quality of the ingredients. Plus, as mentioned in other reviews above, if you choose the 'teppanyaki' meals, they get freshly cooked right infront of you! The sushi is also very good, but a bit more pricey.
Hey there, just been about an hour ago and I'm really missing the place already!! went in, felt uneasy as they seat you in a little area to order, then boom!!! everything kicks off starting with the bang of a gong and some chant about dragonball Z or something and sitting at a massive table with randoms who inevitably buy you sake and share the fun, juggling eggs setting the table on fire and trying to use chop sticks with rice!!!! not one of the best restaurants but THE best restaurant experience I've had in my life would highly recommend it !!!! HanaHan!!!!! I stink of teryaki and sake and fish!!
mainly chose this over the alternatives because my girlfriend is called hannah, very scientific reasoning. but we were not disappointed, great food, great experience and wonderful people. i would recommend everyone should try this place at least once
good restuarant and they cater for everyone.foods reasonable though their miso wines are a bit pricey.service is really good.
