The Guinea Butt is one of the better pubs in Tunbridge Wells for atmosphere as its friendly and has character. It smells a bit of mould/stale beer in places since the smoking ban came into effect, and the toilets are notoriously unpleasant, but if you are after a good night out then there's few better places. Its got quite a studenty feel ( bit scruffy but fun), and tends to appeal to a more rock/grungey crowd, but they get all sorts in and anyone's welcome.
There are two I.T boxes, outside space to drink (and smoke if required), two large tv screens and they have various nights such as a pub quiz on sundays and jam night. The quiz can be quite cliquey as there are many regular teams who know the staff but is usually good fun.
A few years ago The Guinea Butt used to feature quite frequently on my TW evening jaunts, now the only reason I would venture in there is because it's the closest pub to where I live, so given that technically it's my local I think it speaks volumes that I have only been in there twice in the last year.
There are so many far nicer pubs in Tunbridge Wells and the Guinea Butt just seems to be on a downward spiral, what happened to the brilliant Sunday Pub Quiz? For me it is reminiscent of a Wetherspoons in both appearance and the fact that I constantly get ID'd even though there appear to be semi-naked teenage girls drinking freely.
Like the Wetherspoons around the corner, the one plus is the big indoor seating area if you are in a large party and it's cold outside, otherwise be on your merry way.
Another of the great 'I saw a fight at two in the afternoon' pubs. Not necessarily notable for any other real reason that I can remember other than that.
That said it's a nice enough little pub when the locals can keep themselves sensible.
Just opposite Argos if you fancy a pint after a visit to the cave of dreams. Give it a gomaybe
