It's about high time I get back into the Yelp review saddle, and I'm pleased that for my return it's a definite 5+ stars for the wonderful people at Good Vibes Covent Garden.
A month ago, I was in need of a stress-relief option from the demands of academia and by chance (and Google's search engines), I stumbled upon this gem of a fitness studio. I just wanted a place where I could try out some yoga classes for a decent price before a full-on commitment (financial, spiritual, and otherwise) was established.
It was the £40 for 30 days offer that got me hooked, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear a cheerful voice over the phone as I handed over payment details and see a smiling face at the door on my first day. Never taken a proper yoga class before EVER, I was a bit nervous, but a Tuesday evening foundation class with Jess gave me the encouragement I needed to continue going regularly, not only to her class, but try out others in the studio. The teachers are friendly and engaging, emphasising that ultimately it is your needs as the student to feel comfortable and safe in your yoga practice.
The infra-red heat really does warm up the muscles and eases you into the hour or so of class, and the SAD lamps do make a difference in mood. I'm not one to smile during exercise (or exercise, in general! but I digress), but I catch myself doing so every so often in class. I look forward to being enveloped in that warm hug twice (or thrice!) a week, and when my trial offer ends this week, I fully intend to keep going. Why stop now?
30 days for £30? Well, how can you even refuse!?
I found this yoga studio on Yelp whilst pondering a healthier lifestyle (and braving a sports bar with my husband). I thought to myself, "that is £1/day of glorious, refreshing yoga! " And off I went the next day.
This deal is an offer for new students only. I got my husband to join too! Basically if you even go to 2 classes in the month, you'll have gotten your money's worth as each class (drop-in rate) runs 16 quid. It is good for both studios, and any class (they also have Vibe, Pilates & Spin). You call to register for this promo and pay, and then your month starts on the day of your first class. For this promotion you are not able to book online but I found scheduling via email and phone (or at reception) quite easy and the staff very accommodating and friendly.
I recommend booking in -- the classes can get quite full, even during the day.
Yoga: Really impressed. I loved the studio. This is "Glow Yoga" and there are SAD lights in the basement space. Hardwood floors are clean, mats smell like Aveda products and the instructor has a little raised platform so the whole class can see. It can get quite crowded but everyone was really cool about it. I particularly enjoyed the Dynamic classes with Natasha Kerry (a joyful soul!) and the Bliss Yoga on Sunday afternoon, which is more of a deep, soulful stretch -- but delicious none the less. I made it to about 5 classes and each one I left feeling fantastic and refreshed. There is a focus on working out (of course) but a healthy dose of spirit and soul. Just the way I like it!
The changing rooms are a bit tight, especially on crowded nights/classes -- but everyone makes due. Mats & all equipment are provided. Shoes removed at the door.
The only drawback for me personally is that Good Vibes CG is not convenient to my flat, otherwise I'd have been a super regular.
I will definitely pop back in when in the area for my yoga fix -- wish I could make it my regular studio, but just a bit too far. I so appreciate the opportunity to figure this out with the promotion, it's a really great thing they do to allow new students to get a feel for them. Smart cookies over there!
I love this place. I'm almost afraid to give it 5 stars for fear everyone will discover it and the classes will get overcrowded!
I come mainly for the yoga classes, they have really calm studio space downstairs. A variety of yoga classes but mostly various levels of flow yoga and really convenient times. Adam on Monday nights is my favorite - challenging enough for a mid level yogi like me, yet comforting for beginners as well.
Front desk staff are friendly and helpful, everything is clean and spacious and bright. Come try it out!
Having finally admitted to myself that i hate gyms, i was looking for alternative ways to keep fit and remembered this place in Covent Garden.
A power plate is a vibrating base that you do a variety of squats and lunges on, but as the plate is constantly vibrating your muscles are constantly trying to stabilise your position, so it makes for a really intense work out!
Classes are 25 mins long and there's one every 30 mins but it's best to book ahead.
There's only 5 to a class so you get a really personal session.
The instructor was aware it was my first time and took the time to show me the positions correctly and was concerned i didn't over exert myself on my first session.
The class was lively and went at a good pace - you can really pack a lot in to 25 minutes! There's a good, fun atmosphere and good music playing too.
If your going somewhere else after there are 2 bathrooms with showers.
Power plates are the only classes they do here but they do it well.
It's £20 a session which seems pricey but you get good results fast. If you block book sessions it's cheaper (10 for £150 etc) and there's reduced rates for off peak as well.
I was so impressed i booked myself 10 more sessions and may consider doing one of their courses - Drop A Dress Size, Bikini Bootcamp, Ski Fit etc.
I stopped short during my running today when I passed Good Vibes. I liked...well, the vibe of the spot and stopped in to see about taking advantage of the offer to try a free Plates Class. I was greeted very warmly by Sasha who stated that indeed I was welcome to peek in and see the class and then schedule a free one. As I completed the medical waiver, I realized that I'd be unable take advantage.
That said, promised Sasha I'd post a review as she was so pleasant and welcoming! If I lived here, I'd def make Good Vibes part of my life! The classes look amazing and the space is clean, warm and very inviting!
Next time I'm in London for sure.
I am a total Power Plate addict. I'm amazed by how quickly I've seen results. After five sessions, I could see nice defined abs. Now, I've always had fairly decent abs, but never the vaguely sculpted ones that you see on truly toned bodies, but, after several sessions, I swear I could see the beginning of those dream lines.
No, I won't show them off to you even if you ask nicely.
Other than the results, Good Vibes is a nice, friendly and professional studio. The trainers make sure you're going at the level that's right for you, even if there's more than one person in the class. The receptionist - Rachel - is very nice and friendly and always has a smile on her face. Also, there's always a nice pot of hot mint tea that I take full advantage of whenever I go to a session.
Good Vibes also offers advanced classes such as Powerplining (combining Power Plate and trampolining), Speed Power Plate and PowerBox (combining Power Plate and boxing, my personal favourite).
I'm a powerplate addict. It actually works and only takes 25 minutes and that includes a leg massage by the machine at the end which is great.
I am a typical pear shape - complete with chunky thighs - so I was really surprised after only about 8 sessions that my legs looked longer and more toned than I ever remember and my stomach was much flatter. During the sessions themselves holding some of the poses can be a bit challenging but as it's only for 1 minute you can generally power through.
The studio is colourful and all the teachers teach slighly differently so it doesn't get repetitive.
Two warnings though. For the first few times you might not feel it that much at the time but the next day will probably hurt (walking down stairs went ow for a few days for me)and don't make the mistake I did once and go with a hangover. After a night of tequila funnily enough being vibrated is not the best feeling in the world
I'm not kidding when I say that after half an hour on this lovely wobbly plate thing, my legs and body felt more toned than they had in ages - the kind of feeling you get after 5 times down the gym and you know you're on to a good thing. The difference being that I had hardly done anything, I'd done a few squats on a plate! It's really incredible and such a cool idea, that you can just pop down here for half an hour in your lunch time or after work and get fit without really needing to do too much! Love the whole vibe of 'good vibes' - such a nice place and they have studios across London. The bikini bootcamp course is such a good idea, great for anyone wanting to banish celluite the easy way and get those pins out on holiday! The ski fit course is perfect for getting ready to tackle the slopes if you've not been keeping fit all year. It's basically a cheats way to getting in shape and how brilliant is that! Great way to keep fit alongside other exercise (or just on its own if you're really lazy). Best to book so not to be disappointed.
