When I was younger I would always struggle to find ideal presents for my mum! One year I bought her a blue glass vase, which she really loved and so the following year I went one better (kind of) and got her a pair of blue glass candle stick holders, annoyingly though everyone else in the family then jumped on to my band wagon and there was blue glass aplenty adorning our living room. Now that I don't live at home I can find blue glass designs that those at home cannot get hold of and one of my preffered haunts for this searching is Glass Designs on Bedminster's North Street.
This shop boasts a fantastci array of glass products, ranging from decorative glass, glass dishes, mirrors and jewellery. As well as the shop, items are also purchaseable online, ideal for getting such fragile and gorgeous items sent in the post without having to worry that you didn't stuf in enough old copies of the Evening Post into that cardboard box.
This is a gorgeous little shop full of lovely surprises. Check it out!
If you're looking for a slightly different gift this year, check out Glass Designs on North Street. It features glass ware made by local artists using recycled glass materials. There are some unusual cheese boards made by flattened wine bottles, goblets made from recycled beer bottles as well as colourful glass framed mirrors, beautiful glass bottle stoppers, ornaments and jewellery. They also stock the renowned Bristol Blue, Aqua and Ruby glass.
A lovely local arts and crafts shop, Glass Designs sells more than just glass. The shop also stocks wooden items, little sculptures made from old cutlery, jewellery and leather belts. The woman who runs the shop is very nice, and happy to make suggestions if you are looking for a present for someone. Realistically, buying unusual gifts is the only reason that you would come here, since none of the stock has any real practical use. Everything is expensive, but it is all handmade and unique, so you can't realistically expect it to be cheap. The shop stocks a small selection of Bristol Blue Glass, but it is limited, and you're probably better off going to the factory shop in Whitby Road for blue glass items. This is a great place to go and browse around, and you may well find you come out with a little curio or two that you couldn't resist. I personally have one of their glow in the dark glass frogs, and I have sent some of the cute glass hearts to friends.
Some beautiful glass and ceramics, a great place for gifts!
