I went to Ginger Group Westfield yesterday on a Groupon deal for a Brazilian Blow dry, cut and finish. I had no problems in there at all - although the stylist who did my hair wasn't very talkative she did an excellent job.
The whole process took just under two hours and was considerably better than the Brazilian blowdry I'd had at another London salon 8 months previously. She took a lot of time and care cutting my hair exactly how I wanted it, shaped it nicely and then put the keratin treatment on. She blowdried each segment carefully, checking that it was looking okay. I was really pleased with the results.
I did find the low chairs a nuisance but I didn't feel it left me out of control with my hair.
I would definitely return here.
I originally called the Ginger Group at Westfields to arrange an appointment and was put off by an incredibly rude woman on the phone. I called around looking for some other options but finally decided to make an appointment there after all due to the convenience of the location and the insistence of friends that the Ginger Group was actually a very nice salon. I turned up for my appointment and was kept waiting almost a quarter of an hour then found my hairdresser to be very condescending (it had been a while since I last got a cut) and unfriendly as well. The reason I'm giving three stars is that the cut was actually very well done but at £45 for a cut and dry, it would be nice to have a little bit of friendly personality along with a nice cut.
I saw this salon in Westfield and thought it looked nice so I rang to make an appointment for highlights. The woman on the phone was really abrupt and it made alarm bells ring. After I made the appointment I looked for reviews of this salon online and found mainly bad reviews. I bottled it and cancelled it. I know the receptionist does not cut hair but it put me off! Think I'll give this place a miss!
I went to this salon only a couple of months ago. It was on a whim as I was going out that evening and wanted to perk myself up a bit.
I had no appointment and they managed to fit me in after only waiting for 5 mins (with a drink and magazine I might add.) I was treated plesantly as soon as I arrived and never made to feel like I was putting them out with my last minute request to squeeze me in.
The young guy who did my hair was lovely. Really friendly and polite even though it was midday on a Saturday and they were clearly rushed off their feet.
The decor inside was gorgeous although I felt there were a few layout problems. This is mainly down to them being pushed for space in a premium location.
I had a wash and blowdry which the young guy spend an awful lot of time on. I have difficult hair which I know can be a pain to style, but he seemed to take enjoyment in the process and even offered me an extra hair treatment for free - which unfortunately I didn't have time for. He was also keen to share styling tips and give me the lo-down on new products they were getting in.
When it came to the bill I felt that it was quite expensive, especially as I usually have my hair cut and blowdried by the senior stylist at Lee Staffords for the same a blowdry here. This was the only main drawback really. Other than that I have no complaints.
This is the 3rd time I've gone here & the 3rd time they've charged me for a creative director cut when I only booked in with a senior stylist & over charge me. The hairdresser are no good, one director couldn't even tell if I had layers. They're always running so late & all round It's a terrible experience. Don't go here!
I literally just rang these guys to book an appointment for a cut & colour which I had picked up through Groupon.
I asked what their availablility was like next week & the girl was pleasant & offered me a choice of two appointments. As the girl on the phone had not enquired what treatment I wanted, I asked her whether there would be time for a cut and colour. She then asked whether it would be a full tint or a head of highlights, to which my response was "I'm not sure - what does the Groupon voucher allow?"
At which point, the receptionist's manner totally changed; she retaracted her offer of 2pm next Thursday & informed me that they were not taking Groupon bookings until February 2011.
Not especially helpful, as my voucher is due to expire in November.
I was so taken aback that I aked her to clarify that if I were a straight-forward customer, it would have been fine - but becuase I had a Groupon voucher I wasn't allowed an appointment & she confirmed that this was correct.
I am appauled at The Ginger Group's unwillingless to accommodate a special offer which I purchased in good faith - and now quite wary of Groupon as a company.
Absolutely the worst hairdressing experience I have ever had. Unbelievably rude and unattentative staff. I waited 15 minutes for someone to come to the front desk to receive me as the staff all seemed too busy chatting to bother to come over even though I made eye contact with three of them when I came in.
The staff seemed completely disinterested and disgruntled and then told me because I was 5 minutes late I wouldn't be able to get the full treatment I had booked for (even though this was due to noone coming to serve me and I had booked a two hour time slot to get highlights done). I was told they only had time to do a trim in the remaining time.
The salon was not even busy and they were taking many walk-ins so I was really disappointed the staff just didn't seem to care.
The girl washing my hair was so rough and I got no head massage as advertised. The trim took 10 minutes with no conversation or care at all. I was so disappointed for the price. As I had a big event to go to on the weekend I ended going elsewhere to get it re-done as could not trust the dismal hairdressers to fix it.
Worst Hairdressers ever, unwelcoming. they made me feel like I was a pain since the second I walked in. My hair cut looked like a five year old had been let loose on the scissors when I explain I didn't like it, I had three members of staff gathering around me looking down there noses and sniggering I was highly embarrassed and could not wait to leave. the owner Keith Warner is a aggressive intimidating man. My short time in the shop, he Unbelievably threw his phone half way down the shop in front of all the other customers and was screaming and threatening DO YOU WANT ME TO FUCKING PUNCH YOU AGAIN and I then was charged £170 pound for the worst 2hours of my life. I though being in a place such as Westfield would make it professional and a nice place to relax and get your hair done. Very wrong.
I had an appointment here this morning. I tried to show my Groupon code through the app on my phone (never a problem before) and was told quite bluntly that I would have to provide a printout. Unbelievably, I was then instructed to walk to the local library and print it out there! There was a queue for the computers and I didn't have the correct change for the printer. Couldn't face going back to sit in such an unwelcoming atmosphere for two hours so I just left. A good salon makes you feel welcome and relaxed, not stressed out and harassed. If only I'd read these reviews before buying.
THE GINGER GROUP - TERRIBLE is the least I could say about my experience with the Ginger Group. My hair is permanently damaged and the front looks exactly like a tough copper bathtub scourer. I have no way to hide it. I have read reviews of them and sadly, I don't seem to be their first victim. They are horrible and I will never go back.
Their email inbox must be full - no reply from them till now. I even tried ordinary mail and still no reply.
If it was the eBay system, I would have given them a big fat red negative feedback - they aren't even worth the 1 star.
They were rubbish and with the kind of employees they've got, will definitely still struggle & disappoint customers for a long time.
Do yourself a favour - STAY AWAY FROM THE GINGER GROUP

I bought The Ginger Group deal on the 19th of August, 2010 and went for my surprisingly 3.5 hour long hair appointment at the Westfield branch at the beginning of September.
This is by far the worst hair cut I've ever got. My long hair was literally chopped uneven and not to the length I specifically requested.
I asked for full head of highlights but instead she bleached my hair followed by a full head colour. Mmm by the way, after washing my hair, I was given a comb and told to comb my hair myself a serious first in any hair salon. The guys started cleaning and the girls gossiping.
While doing my hair, the hairdresser and the receptionist were blatantly talking about how annoying it is to have to do my hair for only £39 and that the offer shouldn't have been put up on Groupon. I was appalled by the lack of respect, non-existent customer service and unprofessionalism. It clearly looks like the service offered to me was only to the £39 cash value of my voucher and not more.
My lovely hair which turned orange within the same week is now as frizzy, dry and rough as a metallic brush. It's just awful. The treatment to have my hair repaired and conditioned will definitely cost me more than what I've already spent on the deal. I am very disappointed and feel that this should be taken further and known by the company and public.
The deal also mentioned that a goodie bag worth £20 will be given. No such thing! Upon leaving when I asked about it, I was given puzzled looks and told that it wasn't part of the deal, when I showed them the voucher, I was told that there must be a mistake and that they don't have any in stock two definitely different and confusing answer. I left with nothing by the way, just the Kerastase product I purchased at the counter.
Now I wished I went for the Biolustre damage repair part of the deal as all they did was damage my hair.
This was all a horror adventure at The Ginger Group and it looks like I'm living a Halloween nightmare.
DID ANYBODY GET THEIR PROMISED GOODIE BAG???
Terrible, i booked a last minute haircut there today as toni&guy were fully booked, i was kept waiting for 15extra minutes no apologize or drinks offered. When the girl called me to wash my hair she told me to take a seat whilst i was still wearing my outdoor coat! The girls who work there(kids should i say) were rude and continued talking & sitting on the wash stations and i had to ask to sit down. A soaking wet towel was then placed around my neck. I mentioned it was soaking and she went to get another yet i overheard them saying there were no dry towels & moaning. When she finally came back out she said she could wash it without a towel around my neck & clothing to which i complained & left! Shocking staff, filthy inside beyond belief. At £55 a trim i would definately expect better!
I went to the ginger group in Westfield shopping centre having known the name from way back when I used to work in the kings road I had been for a colour change at another top London salon which went horrendously wrong and left me with orange and white highlights and black in-between, I was greeted by a very dismissive receptionist who didn't seem to know exactly what was going on and couldn't cope with seeing to me and answering the phone at the same time after waiting for her to finish with the phone call, about five minutes, she then told me that i wasn't booked in although i had called only hours earlier and had spoken to her about my problem she then told me to sit on the couch which i did i was not offered any magazines or drinks and not asked if i would like my coat to be taken, she then went back to playing on her phone, not a good start I'm thinking, after a couple of minutes a stylist came to reception and asked who I was waiting for his name was Grant , I explained what had happened with my appointment and he said he would look after me, he then led me into the salon and apologized for the poor treatment at the reception and explained that she was inexperienced , untrained and not of a customer service background, he totally put me at ease and restored my confidence that I had made the right choice in going there, I explained what had happened to my hair in my previous visit to a salon, and he said there were a couple of options he could do and that it was not a problem but I must strengthen the hair first, with an intensive conditioning treatment and then we could colour it, he seemed so professional I decided to get it done there and then and because he offered me a complimentary cut it was all the sweeter, I was then taken to the basins to be washed (an OK experience as the basins are very uncomfortable) and led back to Grant's chair.
which I must say are not the best dressing table's I've sat in as the mirrors are way to high and had grant not put a little mirror in front of me I would not have been able to see anything,
Anyway Grant said he would take off about an inch on the lengths and scoop out the layers! using slide cutting and that would get rid of the worst of the over processed hair, he started cutting my hair and I could see he really knew what he was doing, Imagine captain jack sparrow crossed with Edward scissor hands, he then explained that his assistant was going to dry it off and apply the treatment and after that he would put a colour on after having this thick milky stuff put on my hair and dried with a hair-dryer to make it hard (a strange sensation) I was then taken back to the basin's to have it washed Grant then put the colour on while it was processing grant took the time to have a chat with me about my job and other thing's which made me feel that he cared about me, not something I get in hairdresser's often, he explained he had been hairdressing a long time and because of this the company moves him around a lot, not something he likes but part of the job, he had just come back from Windsor and was expecting to be moved again soon, he said he was trying to change the attitude whiten the salon group but was getting frustrated with the indifference being shown from the top and he didn't have much back up which meant all the good people left soon after joining, after about 30 minutes my hair was washed again and I was taken back to my chair, Grant put some nut oil on it and expertly dried it off, my hair looked and felt wonderful, the colour although still dark looked much more natural and blended with my skin tone much better the cut was supreme and the condition was soft and silky thank you Grant.
I was then led back to reception and handed over to the same girl as I saw when I came in who was still on her phone after a bit of a wait (apparently the receptionist doesn't know the price's) I was asked to pay £120
which I didn't mind paying because I felt I had got twice that cost in service but when I tried to rebook with Grant I was told I could not as the book had not been written out that far in advance (six weeks) I then asked for a card with Grant's name on it but they had run out of them, more screw up's at reception.
altogether not a bad experience but they need to get a new receptionist as she is doing nothing for the professional standing of the salon and they could sort out the wash basin's and the dressing tables and mirrors, my advice to anyone going there is to be careful as from what I saw some are excellent (Grant) and some are absolutely rubbish not caring about there clients, and treating there work like a production line,
I would like to go back to Grant when I need another cut but I fear if they keep the same receptionist as when I went first time then I'll be booked in with someone else, If at all and I'll be back to Square one, with hindsight I should have got Grant's personal number so I could book direct with him as I'm not big on trusting
They have no understanding of what is a suitable cut for a person. I am annoyed at myself for not crushing them there and then I think I was too embarrassed by the hair cut and so ran out as quickly as possible home and then shaved my hair.
As many unfortunate people probably do, I stopped in here on a whim while I was in Westfields, as I needed my fringe cut before going on holiday. How I wish I had taken 2 minutes to look up some reviews before going in! The woman who cut my hair was so blatantly disinterested, she could barely even be bothered to speak to me and almost didn't even ask how I wanted my hair cut. She gave my fringe one long horizontal snip and asked if it was short enough. As it was still covering my eyes I asked for it a little shorter and she gave one long snip across again. I had specifically asked that it NOT be a blunt cut across the front but what I ended up with was like a bowl cut for an 8 year old boy. I could see that things were only going even more downhill so I just got up and paid and left before it got worse. I'm so angry at even having paid 5 pounds for such a horrible cut. I look like an idiot and every time I look in the mirror I get angry. I've tried to fix it myself at home but I'll just have to wait for it to grow out again. Clearly this woman should never have been allowed to wield scissors near any person, ever.
