Gascoigne's are not just your ordinary bistro - they appear to be a whole lot more than anything you'd expect as you walk through the front door. They smoke their own meat, fish and cheese right there and also have a divine range of handmade traditional bread.
I only went in for a coffee and a scone but was so impressed just had to come back later for lunch - had some of the best smoked salmon I've ever tasted.
Apparently the owners spent time learning about smoking meats and fish in the outer hebrides and they've certainly learnt a fine art - you can buy their smoked produce in their in-house deli which also has a great range of pasta and specialty goods you won't get down the supermarket.
There's even plans to start up Haworth's first brewery - I'll be back to try that out when it's running because if it follows the Gascoigne recipe for success then it's bound to be a pint worth travelling for.
