Franco speciality is the pizzas they are the real deal, just like the ones in Italy a thin base, slightly scorched and unbelievably tasty. The pasta and sauces are not to the same standard, but I really enjoyed the chicken escalopes in lemon sauce. Pizzas 5 stars, pasta 3 stars, so that averages out at 4 stars.
Avoid this place. It's terrible. After a long day cycling we had stopped at a local bar on the corner, which had a great selection of ales but offered no food. We were told we could order in a pizza from Franco's next door. Franco was not interested in giving me a call back when the pizza was ready and seemed insulted I'd even asked for this level of service. Long story short pizza used very cheap ingredients (italian sausage was pieces if frunkfurter) and the spaghetti carbonara was a gelatinous lump (and small portion). The garlic bread, which consisted of two small sliced of baguette, was heavliy overpriced at ca. £2 take away.
There are better options in Peebles. I'm shocked that this place survives.
Had the misfortune of having a meal here.. from start to finish is was disgusting, actually the worst meal we have ever had. We actually left half way through the main.. the service is appalling, when we complained, the waiter shrugged and laughed. very expensive for the poor quality of food offered, the restaurant is very dated and the service is a joke.. do yourself a favour and avoid at all cost. We heard afterwards, from other people in Peebles that Francos has went down hill.. apparently it was nice once.. but clearly not any more. you have been warned.
Discovered Franco's by accident today and must say that it's been the highlight of the day.The food was fantastic and the chef himself was lovely. The decor may be a bit tired and dated but I can forget this when the food tastes as good.Would recommend to everyone to at least try. Will be back.
