It is great to see Fopp back and saved from closure. It always had a good selection of cheap CDs and DVDs, and they were always priced to the pound, so you never got any pennies as change, I always liked that! I often bought many DVDs there with many at £3-5, which is pretty cheap!
Thankfully after all the Fopps closed down last year, this one mysteriously reappeared in a new location. It's now owned by HMV and its main purpose seems to be to sell off all the overstocked CD and DVD albums from the last 3 years or so, at discounted prices- and that's what it's good at. It does have a range of new releases and a back catalogue as well but that's just the same as HMV really.
The trick is to pop in fairly regularly, maybe once a month, as the stock in their £3 and £5 sections changes fairly frequently and it's easy to see whether there's something new you want to pick up. Even if you only buy £3 CDs it's all too easy to spend £50 in this shop- on CDs that would've cost you £150 if you'd bought them somewhere else.
I was very disappointed when Fopp's across the country closed down last year. It was, however, a constant burden on my wallet and perhaps a good thing.
With many good CDs often reduced to £3 or £5, and the reduced selection changing every month or so, it was always ever so easy to wander around, ending up with a stack of CDs about 20 high. The biggest challenge was choosing which to leave, in hope they'd still be cheap the next month..!
Hooray for Fopp! Fopp has moved back into Bristol after a few problems earlier in the year. The new shop is opposite College Green now. It's great for cheap cd's, sometimes real classics for a s cheap as £3! And I particularly like it for DVD'sas they sell many interesting titles from world cinema. It's hard to find classic films in other shops, but they have them here and they are in my budget. At last I can satiate my craving for Kurosawa, for example, in the comfort of my own home for £10 instead of the usual £20-25 as it was in the past!
When FOPP first opened on park street around 7 years ago I worked in a quiet shop over the road. Despite the amazing cheapness of it, I still spent all my wages on books CD's and DVD's in there. It's now back, and bigger than ever opposite college green. I love it.
great to see fopp is back and its my no 1 chioce for dvd's ect
