This place seems to be a getting a lot better. Haven't been in the Shisha area yet, as its a little cold for me, although the Shisha area seemed to be full the other night when I went along!
I enjoyed the live music last night, and I called the venue today and they tell me that they play there every Thursday. I think the groups name is Reuben Richards, although I think they used to be called Soul Train or something.
Over all, a very enjoyable venue, something a bit different.
The only con really is that sometimes you have to wait to go outside for a ciggie, but I think there are laws against having too many people outside smoking at one time, so I don't mind.
Great hookah bar on the roof under the tent!!
Flavas is where HA HA used to be. They ran a competition to pick the name. They can't have had many entries.
I went once for the carvery. It was ok. The veg had come out of a bag of frozen veg. The meat wasn't too bad. The girls I was with got much more generous portions than I did, so my tip is to take a girl with you, then swap plates with her. You can help yourself to all veg, gravy etc, and go back for more. The gravy had tiny whole shallots in it, which is a very literal approach to onion gravy.
We had the carvery just as they opened on Sunday. They seemed a bit annoyed that we wanted to go in so early. Having since been there on a weekend night, I can see why. It was absolutely rammed. The staff are overrun. There are not enough of them. It gets my goat when the bar is under-staffed. It makes you hate the bar staff. Hate them because you've been waiting half an hour just for a shoddy drink, which will cost you too much and taste like cack. And then later you feel bad for hating somebody who has to work tirelessly in an understaffed bar on the weekend. (Crap satire alert: they should have called it Slavers) Its a lose-lose situation. How much does it cost to employ a couple of extra guys for the night? They would sell more drinks if they did. I thought that was the point. I wonder what Duncan Banatyne would make of it.
Also when I went, the men's toilets were flooded. This attempted to get my goat, but it had already been gotten by the experience at the bar, so it had to settle for my moat, which was all it needed given that there was already one around the urinals. I know this review is clearly a pile of rubbish, but there we go, deal with it.
Whisper it quietly while Captain Qype is around, but I looked on another review site to get the address. One reviewer said she liked it better when it was HA HA. Her name was Sarah Harding. I don't think its the real Sarah Harding, but I think I saw Monty Panasar in there once, so who knows? If Sarah Harding does go to Flavas, it may also explain why it was so busy when its obviously shit. They should have called it Slavers!! Oh, I did that already. Shut up.
I've only been to Flavas a couple of times since it changed from Ha Ha Bar & Canteen. The first was for a couple of hours after work, the second (and definitely the last) was a Friday evening with a friend. The drink prices were average, the toilets were rather dirty - didn't seem to be checked regularly.
We sat outside and ordered food, it was pricey for what it was but of decent quality. We were not even halfway through eating our food when a very rude female bouncer told us to go inside as she'd already told us earlier - I stated politely that it was the first time she'd come anywhere near us and she got very aggressive and started shouting at my friend and myself. We left our food half finished and went inside.
There was a DJ with music so loud conversation was impossible. When we tried to go outside to have a chat and a smoke, we were told to queue up. We felt like prisoners. We queued up the first time and literally were told within 5 minutes to get back inside or we wouldn't be allowed back in. 20 minutes later we decided to leave and were told we had to queue up, I stated quite bluntly that I did not expect to have to queue to LEAVE the premises when I had no intention of returning. I've not been back since then!
Went with my girlfriend
Cosy place good service great portions and a happy friendly vibe
Dj was playing he was good and got a bonus of free entry into karma nightclub because I didn't want to end a good night What a bonus.
All round fun good time
Not my cup of tea at all, staff pretty useless last time I went, looks tacky with the new neon lights outside.Better when it was HA HA by a country mile.
i reckon this place is a required taste. It seems that they is alot of young college types of a certain kind that go here especially for the shisha. At first i was confused as whether the shisha and the flavas bar was together but then i find out it is seperate. its not really warm enough unless outside has scorching temperatures of summer but the heaters are not even hot and the decor for the outside marquee looks tacky. i use to be into the whole shisha scene but i don't think this compares to other places ive been to.would rather have a shisha at home to be honest. Everytime i go there the bar is completely dead. Flavas just doesn't have that certain vibe to it.i guess if you're into the whole shisha thing this is your scene but i get bored of it easily and wouldn't want to be around noisy groups who think they are centre stage.i think if it was ha ha's then maybe it would be decent. please make it decent or else!
