Had a wonderful dinner here last night. I've been near this place so many times that it's a wonder I've never eaten here before. Finally found an occasion and wasn't disappointed. The fish is great....fresh and very well prepared. From our starter through to our main course, truly a treat if you're in the mood for fish. Further, dessert was a highlight. Had the walnut ice cream with marzipan filled dates. This was amazing....but I'm a huge marzipan fan so they had this going for them. Finally service was very attentive and polite.
Why only 4 stars then? Well I found the food, service and staff all to be very good. There just wasn't anything outstanding about the place. Nothing popped out and made me say "wow, I have to come back here." The people eating here were also of an older generation. It may have only been the night but looking around I'd say the average age was definitely at least 45 if not 50. The decor was also rustical but a bit boring. I may just be used to over-designed scene restaurants but this place could be spruced up a bit....for example I'd change the tables and chairs.
Nevertheless, if you're up for fish, this place can't easily be beat. I found the prices to be fair for what you get and the service was very professional so very little is likely to go wrong.
I had something to celebrate, so why not try out an expensive restaurant?!
After orientating on Qype I made my reservations at the Fischmarkt Restaurant.
No regrets, this is an absolute suberb restaurant! Excellent service, fantastic food, nice atmosphere (except we were the youngest customersby far!) and lovely decor.
Being in a traditional fish restaurant, ofcourse we ordered the lobster. Garlic grilled with limes but kinda smallunfortunately!
Starter: Pumpkinsoup with balsamic vinegarby far the best Ive ever tasted!
The open kitchen is amusing, without the overwelming smell of fresh fish.
This night left me with absolute no money, but it was all worth it!!
This place is very close to my accommodations. I liked the vibe a lot. It was upbeat and friendly. Service was excellent.
I had a wonderful, very fresh mixed green salad with diced pumpkin garnish. It was practically an entree size.
My main was a great pan fried perch atop seasonal vegetables in a nice sauce.
Enjoyed a great meal at the Restaurant Fischmarkt yesterday!
The menu was quite "traditional", which I guess is also suitable for the location very close to the old Hamburger Fischmarkt - even though they did offer a few "kinda Asian" dishes.
The quality was excellent, very well prepared and tasty; although not something that will make the folks from Guide Michelin drool. This was also seen in the price levels that were slightly above average, but not insane, and in my view reasonable for what was offered.
I was lucky to be invited, so I did not get a chance to have a look at the wine list - but did enjoy a great Riesling :-)
The service was very good - not spectacular, but the kind of service that you do not really notice until you start thinking about it. A big thumbs-up to the team.
The decor is a bit kitchy, but not over the top, and the open "fish market kitchen" works very well.
Parking is - as just about anywhere in Hamburg horrible, but it's only a few minutes walk away from two underground train stations so there is an alternative.
If you like seafood, this restaurant is certainly worth a visit!
