My favorite restaurant in Vienna (though a bit away from downtown). While many people opt for the heurigers in the 19th district, I preferred this place.
The indoor restaurant is extremely nice, the gardens space is very nice in the summer. Their burgers are authentically good, the veggies mozzarella stuffed pretzel is a great vegetarian option. For the schnitzel I preferred the experience in their Figlmuhler filiale downtown really.
The staff is great a constantly changing seasonal specialty first page on the menu tempts you to break the routine of your regular dishes.
Try the Weiss bier (Die Weisse), freshly brewed in a popup glass bottle, very smooth and highly recommended.
Don't go in large groups, my experience (twice) when a large number of orders are placed was not pleasant (in the sense of some orders being missed and certain omissions forgotten). In groups up to 6 people it has always been a blast.
Did I mention their white and chocolate mousse served with apricot ragout ?? Don't miss that one either !
I like Figls. I really enjoy the atmosphere and the service is very good. As far as the food is concerned, it is definitely above average.
Freshly baked pretzel is definitely a must. Baked cheese is great as well and the combination of these two is delicious.
Beef tartar is good but I had better - a lot better. Ribs are so-so. The burger is not memorable - more bun than beef.
I recommend going there more for drinks and snacks than anything else.
One year later: same relaxing place, same nice and attentive waiters, same amazingly good and tasty Austrian food!
Their meat dishes are really, really good. Their Wiener Schnitzel is without any doubt one of the bests, if not THE best of Vienna! It is made out of Calf meat, as the traditional receipt stipulates.
And of course since you are in a traditional Austrian local, you get two of them at once ;)
The Tadelpitz is also very generous and well prepared, and the potatoes taste so good!
Sitting outside on the terrace under the shade of a tree remains one of the nicest places I've ever been to in Vienna.
I would advice you to call in advance to make a reservation though: we arrived at 12 sharp, and lots of tables were already under reservation!
Ok, I'm loath to do this and this review should be read in conjunction with my previous review. However, after spending two days in bed with food poisoning after having eaten at Figl's I feel compelled for you, fellow yelpers, to update this review. Hubby and I took some friends here for dinner Thursday night. I opted (against my better judgment as it turns out) to try from the Styrian menu, had a half of a grilled chicken that came with a cucumber salad that was in some sort of dairy, probably yogurt, but hard to tell, it was a very runny sauce per se and way over seasoned with dill. So the chicken was bland, but the cucumber salad was ok (see above on over seasoning). I was able to get through a little more then half the chicken and most of the salad, not a memorable meal at that point. Was thinking to myself I should have stuck to the burger.
Our guests ordered Styrian beef steaks which they seemed to enjoy, and hubby got a fish dish. Hubby and another friend ordered the apricot crepes which they enjoyed and we all got coffee.
I will leave my illness at ... I didn't even make it to 0300. You know that feeling where you know exactly what brought you to that position of worshiping porcelain gods? Yeah, I knew it was that cucumber salad. Out of an abundance of caution though I threw away the leftover chicken. Hubby was fine, thank goodness. I hope the guests were as they had a flight the next day.
I will definitely come back, but my willingness to stray from the burger will be limited. More to follow on this joint.
Great schnitzel and Burgers! We have been there 4 times with out of town family thus far. Only complaint is they should have a non smoking section! Nice atmosphere.
We might have had a bad Saturday evening but we were rather disappointed, in contrast to the previous comments. The dishes were dirty, the atmosphere was rather noisy and crowded and the waiter spilled the drinks on us. If you want to act like a high class restaurant you should try better. For such a service and ambience the prices were too high. However the food was very good and their self brewed beer was extraordinary. The original Wiener Schnitzel from veal was quite tasty, very huge and my first veal one, but with almost 20EUR I will stay with the pork variant for the future
