What a lovely spot. Staff are incredibly friendly. Food is super tasty with big portions and nice variety. Wine is also lovely and cheap.
Apologises for beginning this review in an AA meeting style but, 'It's been two weeks since my last Yelp and I'm not coping very well....'. I'm afraid that sometimes there are just too many delicious restaurants like Fifty Six to eat at and just not enough time to write about them!
This little local restaurant oozes charm. It's mish mash of comfy furniture and quirky paintings set off by fairy lights and the occasional cushion may not be to everyones tastes but personally, I'm a big fan.
The food doesn't disappoint either. My boyfriend started with a Wild Boar and Partridge pate (not for the light hearted). Dense and delicious, he scoffed every mouthful! My fish skewers with homemade satay sauce (a first for me) were light and refreshing with a slight chilli kick to hit you when you least expected. The main courses kept up this high standard although whilst his sea bass with saffron sauce was faultless, my honey and ginger duck was a bit too sweet for my tastes. I forgave this though because of the lovely service. Not too fussy and with a bit of humour the staff made us feel as though it was no problem to stay all night. So we did. Four hours after arriving, we had to force ourselves to leave- a good sign of any restaurant. My biggest regret is that it took us too long to try this place out but have no fear, I know we'll be back soon!
One evening my friend and I were taking a walk and decided to check out Fifty-Six. When we walked in we were greeted as if we were old friends. The staff is extremely friendly and they treat you as if you are the only customers in the place. The restaurant is very warm and homey. I was impressed that every table was full, a good sign. For dinner I ordered the swordfish with a coconut chutney and spinach. Swordfish is in that category that you either get very right or very wrong. If it's overcooked the fish will be rubber and dry. The chef at Fifty-Six knew what he was doing, because he got it VERY right. The swordfish was grilled perfectly and the chutney added a nice flavour. I ate every single bit of my swordfish and spinach, which was also tasty. Spinach is my favourite vegetable and I defiantly enjoyed it.
Fifty-Six is an exceptional neighbourhood restaurant. The food and the vibe make it the ideal for a regular dinner spot.
I recently went to this place for my birthday and was not disappointed. The food was great which is modern european in style. The service was ok but dipped once they got busy. Make sure you book as they become very busy very quicky.
Overall a great experience.
