"Grisly ghouls are closing in......"
I love Halloween, always have, always will.
But I don't think any future events will out do this one!
I had such fun. Talking to new Yelpers - Hi Sarah O particularly, established Yelpers - Hi Laura, Lizzie, Sarah, Leon, Red, Larissa, Trisha etc, bringing some new flesh into the Yelp fold, dancing, watching spooktacular MJ dancing, and enjoying the odd drink or two.
Elite events are always fabulous, and I wonder how the next one can be any better, but London CM's and Elite crew always manage to exceed my extremely high expectations.
Long live Yelp, Long live Halloween, and Long live the Elites!
Halloween 09 was absolutely a winner over last years halloween B.Y. (before yelp). I was just relieved to have something to DO this year, and an excuse to go out in public with half my face painted.
I have to admit I did go in with low expectations for the green carnation, due to bad experiences in the past, but I have to say that any bar filled with my friends, and free drinks will exceed my expectations.
though they weren't idiots, they did know what they were doing, when they only put one bartender to serve the yelpers while the drinks were free. I felt REALLY bad for that bartender as we all HORDED him with orders as the clock struck 8.
I adored that EVERYONE demanded a costume, and with lizzie acting as our own personal make up artist for those who came unprepared defo helped the situation.
another STELLAR yelp event. thanks guys.
My first Yelp event, hopefully of many, was top notch.
It had everything you needed, a make up artist to help those who had costume fails at the last moment (ahem, myself included - thanks Lizzie for tackling a tricky make up task without even any time to get warmed up!). It had casual entertainment in the form of an MJ tribute, with some elite dancing skills on a tiny stage (that backflip in such a small space was superb!), some sexy burlesque and the odd horror movie on the big screen to supplement the action.
The venue was nicely sized too, full, but not crowded, and of course the free drinks in the early hours of the evening really helped get the party started on a firm foundation!
Great event, I'll definitely try more.
First review? Yay!!!
This event...I don't even know where to begin. If there is a place to begin. Walking in, we were greeted by the zombie prom queen herself, Ms. Laura N., who looked fabulously dead in a royal way. Lizzie G was downstairs giving everyone zombie make-overs should they need it and everyone else was chilling at the bar drinking like no tomorrow. London Yelpers can throw them down, other cities be warned!
The music was amazing. The people, as always, were beyond fabulous... Everyone's makeup and costumes looked SO.GOOD!!!!! There were burlesque dancers in the middle of the night, and a Michael Jackson dancer, all of which was insanely entertaning! First event as an Elite....Success!
Leon REALLLLY outdid himself on choosing the venue and throwing one heck of a Yelpoween event where everyone could celebrate Halloween without getting toooo many stares from British civilians. I can't rave enough how utterly fantastic this event was....Beyond words fabulous.
And my Zombie babies are now sitting on my shelf, waiting to be brought out again.
Londoners seem to have an aversion to halloween, Yelpers though, they always pull through. This is my favorite holiday back home, so I was excited to see that we made it a success here.
Party was amazzzing. Thanks to the Green Carnation's free drinks and specials, we got off to a roaring start. My poor little liver is still processing everything and the end of the night is all a bit hazy. There were ghosts, zombies and goblins dancing about and some spectacular moves from the MJ dancer.
Everyone looked great! Yelp did halloween with style. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a lunch of water and paracetamol waiting for me and the task of getting blue makeup off of everything I touched...
I was worried that Halloween would be a ho-hum affair in London, judging by the lack of color in Soho (at least compared to back home in SF) as I was walking up to the Green Carnation. As soon as I stepped inside, however, I knew everything was going to be OK. The night was a mess of zombies, cuba libres, spandex, and speaking Spanish.
Thanks to the alliterative trio of Leon, Lizzie, and Laura for another kickass evening. We should have Halloween more often.
Zoomied my world.
Never really done Halloween before but can safely say I'll never miss another one! Getting ready was half the fun then waiting in anticipation to check out what everyone would turn up as.
We got front row seats for the Kitten Club performance (http://www.thekittencl...) which we lapped up. I sure they really appreciated our drunken yelled advice about how to fix up the microphone/speaker feedback (in hindsight probably not helpful...). Anyway, they were awesome and I would love to see them in their own venue.
I would write more but some of the night is a little bit of a blur...
Fun Times thanks to the zoomie Prom Queen and her dead good looking team.
A foggy but fabulous evening was spent dancing, photographing and admiring the costumed wonderment of London's yelpers. You are all seriously photogenic! As the scary dead theme is not a north American thing, I was surprised at the zombified masses. Someone asked me what I was...dead, that's what!
BirdGang Ltd.'s Joe made for a magnificent Michael Jackson and got us up and dancing in a flash. The spinning skills of DJ Wigz kept the party rolling while DJ Mark Mason moved us into the wee hours of the night. A huge thank you to Leon and the Yelp team for hosting the fun. The Green Carnation was the perfect home for our masquerade.
I'm with Eamon B, let's do Halloween again, sooner rather than later!
Thank you Yelp for ensuring that my Halloween was awesome. The zombie theme was very cool. Everyone did a great job with their costumes. There were drinks and dancing. There was even an MJ tribute and some burlesque! Kudos to Leon and the other L's for putting on an great party.
Any night that involves Lizzie G. in a bin bag, Leon C. with his dramatically unbuttoned shirt, Laura N. in a voluminous Dolly Parton wig, crowds of zombies, and stripper poles is a 5 star night from me.
Spending Halloween in London was fantastic! And thanks to Yelp for putting on a great party. Free drinks to start off the night is always an A+ move. Loved how much everyone got in to their costumes and the whole Zombie idea turned out great! Thanks guys!
