I came here on a Sunday afternoon with 2 friends. It was really warm and summery that day, despite it only being late April, so all the outdoor seats were taken, but there was still some seating inside. The menu has got a pretty huge selection; I'm a little sad I didn't get to go back to try more of their offerings! I ordered the spaghetti eis with sttawberries, which was really delicious and a generous size. It really did look a lot like spaghetti, especially with the white chocolate shavings made to look like parmesan!
Service was pretty quick; we got our ice creams just a few minutes after ordering. We were able to easily split the bill (we paid with cash so I'm not sure what the card situation is). There were bathrooms as well and they were reasonably clean.
A great place to stop by for a huge ice cream on a warm day! The spaghetti eis was delicious, and definitely worth a try if you've never had it before. All the desserts also make for great photos.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ernie And Dora H.Kannapolis, United States1617362030 May 2016
We capped off an awesome day with ice cream from Eiscafe Brede. A walk-up with loads of outside seating and they offer almost any variety of ice cream that you can imagine. (Dora here. Not sure we ever could have imagined this! And if you're walking from the train station, just a warning, it's a bit of a trek. Phew!) We both chose the Spaghetti Ice Cream, mine with strawberries and Dora's with chocolate, of course. Now this was definitely a different bowl of ice cream. Just looking at it from a distance, it almost looks like real spaghetti. But as soon as you dig into this dessert, you soon realize that it is creamy delicious ice cream.
Dora here. It only took one bite for you to realize, Ernie? Took me the whole bowl. lol. Soooo good! People might've stared at me for licking the bowl. \o/

So, last time a 4, this time onlya 3.
The ideea is, that if you have a terrace, you have to adjust the number of employees, in our case the problem seems to be not behind the bar, but in front of it. The waiters.
Because outside was full, decided for a place inside. One of those tall tables. Bad ideea. Beside beeing exatly on the main hallway, where the waiters where rushing by, the tables are very small, and undersized.
The next problem, unexperienced waiters. Ordered waffels, received Crepes. Changed it, waited a lot, got the right one, but without eating utensils. The cherry on the pie, was the incredible long waiting time for the check.
Hot tip: if you like this place for it's ice, which I still consider one of the best in Cologne, if not the one, but you don't get a place outside or a big table in the back, just leave it!;)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 010 Aug 2015Previous reviewGelato! In my opinion one of the best (if not the best) place in Köln to have a cooling ice-cream on a hot summer day. The place is located very central in Rudoplfplatz, which makes it accessible from most directions.
A very rich choice of ice-creams is one of the aces of this Gelateria. The place is nice and quite, service is great, and the products always fresh.
But what makes it than not a 5*? Well, some of you may say it's a taste question, but the ice-cream I ordered last time was simply to sweet, so half of it stayed on the plate.
Still, take all in consideration, I retain my opinion about this place, being the best for ice, especially for take-away. - Jason P.Baltimore, United States73811 Oct 2017
Unfortunately, my wife and I were not even able to get far enough with the server to order. We stood by the counter for a few minutes trying to make up our minds on what we wanted to order given the wide variety of delicious options available.
Evidently this was too long since the server threw his arms up at us in apparent disgust and impatience and said something to us in German which we could not make out (Side note: my wife and I both know a little German, enough to get us through most simple transactions.). Frazzled, my wife told him that we needed a minute (in english). "What? You don't speak German in Germany?!", He replied with his arms still up in the air.
Noting that we were obviously not welcome we promptly left. I'm sure this is an excellent establishment and I don't mean to tarnish its rating. This was just such a shocking and hurtful experience for both of us that we felt it deserved sharing if for no other reason than to warn other travelers so they don't have a similar experience. If this gentleman's attitude represents this business I would recommend putting up a "German only!" sign.
One thing to note - we've been happily using German during almost all transactions because we know how important it is to try and speak the language of the country you visit. We never expect a business to switch to English to accommodate us because our German is usually enough to get us through the transaction.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sophie P.Berlin, Germany2374581073 Feb 2018
I always come by here after a day of shopping to treat myself. Haha they have a great selection of gelato and it's delicious. I even come by when it's cold out. Sometimes though in the summer, there's a ton of people so they sometimes run out of flavors you want.

We were in Cologne in June 2017. Breda was right next door to our AirBnB and our host said this is the best ice cream in Koln. He is right! I only had ice cream on a cone, next time will try the fancier desserts (since we loved Koln and plan to return.)

It was a very warm day and Escape Breda was a welcome oasis of cool ice cream, strawberries, fruit eis pizza and cooling beverages. The service was very good and the staff were friendly even with the bizarre mishmash of English, French, and German being spoken at our table.

22 flavors of ice cream to choose from. The vanilla has a particularly unique flavor that everyone in our group enjoyed. €1.10 for a single scoop cone.
