I still can't figure out if Edeka is more or less expensive than regular grocery stores. There seems to be some kind of discrepency, in that some things are more than I would have thought while others are cheaper than the local Kaiser's or Rewe.
This particular Edeka is kind of gross, largely in part to the foot traffic from tourists galore... or at least, that's what I assume. It's a block away from Hackescher Markt which means most of the people who come in here are likely not residents. As a result, it's super warm, it's dirty, it's busy, and the selection is eh.
Come here if you're in the area and need something quick, but if you can avoid it, do your shopping elsewhere.
The sad thing about Edeka in Mitte is that they don't accept credit cards. It is the most touristy area of all, everybody wants to buy groceries. Juice, milk, cereal, sodas and water. I understand the credit card fraud that goes in tourist areas, but please, it is the only supermarket in the hipster part of Mitte and the cashier didn't speak a word of english. She offered me plastic bags after i bought my stuff, and they didn't accept credit card. Please Edeka, if you don't like tourists, let another supermaket chain take control over, they will do a much better job for sure.
