I've never heard of this place until a friend of mine from the states mentioned that she wanted to go check it out, and I'm so thankful that we went. This place is within walking distance to St. Paul's Cathedral, and is the PERFECT place to grab a bite to eat before or after visiting the tourist site.
My friend and I got both the earls club and the original, and we shared. Both sandwiches were delicious and the bread was toasted nicely. If you're touring London, and are looking for a nice, cheap restaurant that serves quality food in a chill atmosphere, this is your place.
One last thing, this is a chain restaurant that started back in the states, and apparently the one in Las Vegas tastes better (according to other reviews). But for those like me who have never tried this place, or have never even heard of it, London's Earl of Sandwich will not be a disappointment :)
Who goes all the way from Embankment to St. Pauls to eat at a chain sandwich place? Me!
A colleague raved about this place so decided to give it a try - hey it's only a bus ride away. It's funny when you walk in, it does feel like an American chain. A bit bizarre with a name like Earl of Sandwich, you'd think it would be British!
I had the Full Montagu and it was delicious! Sadly the highlight of the sandwich for me was the bread but the filling in the middle was also pretty good. I had a bite of my friends original sandwich which was even better.
Overall I really liked it. The only downside is if you're counting your calories - it's not at all healthy! I think chicken selects from McD has fewer calories!! It's okay, have this once in a while... or opt for a burger instead.
Found this place while wandering about London. Actually, we've had the Las Vegas version of Earl of Sandwich. The Vegas location is what got us hooked. London... well, it wasn't as good.
If you're desperate for some nutrition, grab a bite and walk down Fleet Street to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese.
A nice spot for a good, quick lunch near Saint Paul's Cathedral. I had their Original sandwich and it was good although the meat was sometimes a bit hard. The bread was very good!
My friend used the toilets and told me they were very clean, that's a plus!
Really enjoyed their Full Montagu sandwich. Our orders were taken and made while were waiting in line to pay, the whole process was quick and streamlined. The sandwich was hot, tasty, and very filling!
This is a good, quick lunch option just down the street from St. Paul's. I would put it somewhere between Panera and Subway; it doesn't have the fast-food vibe of Subway, but it is smaller than a Panera. We decided to give it a shot after seeing a piece about it on the CBS Sunday Morning Show (I'm older at heart than I look; I love that show...and early dinner at Denny's), and we went with the Original. The roast beef was good; tender enough, and identifiably beef unlike a lot of what passes for red meat in sandwiches these days. The cheese and horeseradish were fine, but personally I like my horseradish strong enough to make me wince, so I would have liked more of it. The bread was excellent; dense and moist, but with a little bit of crunch on the outside. All in all a decent meal at a decent price.
Anytime I went to London this is one of the first places I go to. Not quite as good as the Las Vegas location, but still a damn good sandwich. I would rate the Vegas Jamaican Jerk Chicken sandwich a 10, and the London location a 9.2. Still worth the tube ride to eat there for lunch.
Big fan of Earl of Sandwich in Florida and on a trip to London was excited to have one in England. What a disappointment it was. My girlfriend had a tuna melt and it was so sweet it just tasted horrible and I had a full montaghu and there was just no flavour to it. Staff seemed a bit disinterested to be there, and the place was dead (I wonder whether there was a reason for that?). If you've eaten at Orlandos chain, don't expect the same here.
