While living in Forest Hill I decided to give the Dulwich Library a go, as I discovered it on one of my neighborhood walks and it was included into my already acquired library card for that area.
What a great discovery. Lovely building with seats along the windows and a very good selection of sci-fi, as well as the usual novels and advice books. They have a certain book shelve for returned items. That shelve plus an extra table behind the reception area normally holds all the newest books. Of course you can also reserve items through the website, but it will cost you a booking fee and they will only hold it for two weeks. Never had a problem with that, as they source the books from different libraries and I'm happy to pay for that service. Better than buying the book itself.
Of course the staff can be a hit and miss, as some of the volunteers never seems to have gotten a good training session on the library software, but I was never treated unfriendly.
I don't think it's changed since the '80s.
The photocopier is rubbish.
There is a reasonable selection of books for such a small library, and the staff are quite helpful if you can't find anything.
Could do with a little modernisation and some newer material.
Dulwich Library is much smaller than it seems from the outside! The beautiful, grand building does house a great collection of books, CDs and and tapes but as with most local libraries could do with the council putting some money in to refurbish the interior.
It's a lovely place to stop by on a walk to the park, though, and has its own attractive garden too.
This library is great. It has internet access, photocopier, DVDs, CDs, talking books and a great selection of fact and fiction. It also has a great online service which you can use to reserve books and see where books are in the area.
The staff are helpful and the childrens library is lovely. DVDs are cheap to rent and TV series you get a box set for a week for around £3.
This library is situated in the heart of dulwich in dulwich plough, close to dulwich park. The library is ideal for families, schools, students and individuals. The library contains all the useful books and resources including music and cd collections, reference books, free internet access, books of all genres and photocopiers. The library also provides baby and toddler sessions, homework club and an adult reading club. I visit this library every week, it is a peaceful and friendly environment and the opening hours are great and flexible.
Dulwich Library provides a wonderful service to the Dulwich community which can be seen by the wide variety of people who use it. It is well stocked with new bestsellers and old classics. In addition to this it has a decent sized computer room with at least 12 computers with internet access, providing an invaluable port to those who cannot afford internet access at home. Well staffed and well maintained.
